Series II RM40

Is there any information on the series II version of the RM40? John seemed to hint that it would have a 12" side firing PR rather than the down firing 10".

Although there may be some exceptions the new "SERIES II" speakers will generally have the following:

1) The new CDWGs on both the Neopanels and the Tweeter

2) A Side Firing Passive Radiator rather than a Down Firing

3) Slight better cabinet bracing or cabinet body

4) Either OXO or D-OXO (Outboard Crossovers)

Some of these elements on some models are still in development and subject to change.

The Series II RM40 is not yet in production.  It will feature domestically made cabinets, sidefiring 12" PR's for improved bass response, CDWG's on mids and tweeters, and is priced around $6800pr.  We will offer a full range of finishes and veneers, plus the usual options.  Both analog and digital versions of the crossovers will be made available, same price.

I'm still undecided on the benefits of the new CDWG'S with the FST?

I just PM'd the seller on Audiogon that he should change his ad so that there isn't any confusion.

Update: Turns out those were built just for him and he is a dealer.

Brian,

I planned to refinish my RM40's this summer with new veneer. Do you think it would be possible to upgrade them to the side firing PR during this project? I would make my own plug for the down firing PR. Is there a crossover change needed with the 12 PR?

I don't think I'll go as far as the OMG woofers. I don't feel they would add that much of an improvement over the VMPS 10" woofer, it does a pretty good job in my setup. I cross my RM40s over at 50 Hz and let my twin 18" sealed Avalanche subs handle the low stuff.

Once I move the system down to my HT (when it gets finished) it may be a different story with the bigger room. The room will also have sound treatments that are not present in the livingroom like a completely dead front wall. I'll go through the whole setup over again and see what works best down there.

If you have a subwoofer there is no advantage to the side firing 12" PR on the RM40.  Besides, it's a lot of work.
