bnc-bnc vs. AES/EBU digital
« on: 13 Mar 2012, 10:41 pm »
hi,
im using bnc to bnc digital cable between BDP-1 and my dac, and i was thinking to try AES/EBU, would that make any difference in SQ ?.
if yes, what is the difference.
thanks.

Due to the connectors used, BNC-BNC is capable of providing a consistent 75 ohm connection.  But since AES/EBU uses XLR connectors, I don't see how it can ever provide a fully consistent 110 ohms like it claims.   So in theory BNC-BNC is the better connection.   Can someone refute this and provide a reliable source?

But I have seen some BDP-1 reviews that say AES sounds better, while other reviews say BNC sounds better.   I noticed that those preferring BNC claimed it sounded more detailed, while those who preferred AES often talked about the smoothness.
