laptop on top of B60
« on: 26 Mar 2012, 02:01 am »
I know this is a kind of particular question, however, I was wondering if anyone had some input. My little b60 sits on top of an upright piano and I have a new LG slimline laptop that stores perfectly on top of the b60. I realize that there are probably limits to the advice I can get, but I was wondering if there's any reason why doing this can cause any harm to either piece of technology - i.e. when a b60 amplifier section is in really close proximity to a powered off laptop and any possible implications to the hard disc etc. Any thoughts?

The B60 uses the top as a heat sink. Putting anything on top without proper spacing could overheat the B60.

Bryston B60 is a wonderful integrated amplifier :thumb:, but it gets hot and it uses the chassis as heat sink, a laptop gets hot too so it will be hotter than normal for the B60 :(. when the B60 gets hotter, it will stop working until it gets cooler. I would leave the B60 by it's self.

What they said.  My B60 gets hot.  Even the knobs get warm after a while.  This is normal for the B60.  I wouldn't put anything on top of it.  I'd also make sure there's enough room under it.  I have mine on Vibracones to make cable connection easier and to let air circulate a bit better under it.

does the b60 slide around on top of the vibracones? I have never seen them and I was wondering of those balls on top of the cones cause problems keeping equipment stationary.

No problems with them and the B60 staying put.  I have the cones point-side up, with the points (ball bearings?) in the middle of the B60's feet.  There's a flat metal screw head (or something similar) that's very slightly recessed in the middle of the feet.  The ball bearing sits right on there.

I used to use them on my turntable.  I had them point-side up right on the plinth.  No problems there either.

The ball bearing is press fit into the cone.  It doesn't move.  I heard/read somewhere that the ball bearing can be removed, but I haven't tried it.  Doesn't seem like an easy thing to do and undo if necessary.

Interesting. At some point the feet on my B60 were replaced by stubby square rubber stick-on feet.

I had a B60 and I put "extra" square rubber feet on the original ones, that way it went up a little more for extra ventilation. as I said before ,this B60 is a wonderful machine, but the only problem is it gets really hot when it is pushed more than 1/2 volume.
