Dakkon,

Thanks, that description makes this trip sound all the more appealing. Did you pick up any pieces yourself in HK or did it end up being too expensive with customs etc in the end? Kicking myself I don't have time to check out Hong Kong too

I did not buy any stereo stuff, i was in the Navy on a fast attack submarine at the time.. So there would be no place to put any stereo stuff i bought anyhow... On a side note, there would also have been no customs either ....

I did buy some video camera gear though, and it was a fraction (in the region of 1/10th) of the prices we pay in the states, In HK they had an electronics district, this was weird also, buying Name brand electronics off of a street vendor, or a HK brand for another fraction of the name brand product.. I would assume that the same would be true for some of the stereo stuff as well, depending on what you decide to go with. If Shanghai is anything like HK, then you will be able to get a nice amp for 500$ U.S. I do remember something about 400$, i think that anything under 400$ is one rate, and anything over 400$ is a different rate that is exponentially higher. I am not 100% sure on that though,as i did not have to worry about customs for any of my purchases.

I have both Yaqin and Melody low-end tube amps that are nice and are made in China, I think the Melody stuff is a little better made and sounds better based on my amps.

Other Chinese brands you might also look at Dared, Ming Da, Doge, Yarland, Jolida, Cayin, Music Angel, and Xindak.  I haven't heard these amps, but have heard of them.

As others have said, be sure that it is wired for whatever voltage you need.
