The Conversion is Complete
« on: 24 Feb 2012, 03:55 am »
I have no idea why I am compelled to post this here, but I am, so here it is. I just finished the process of bringing my new, to me, '09 Mac Mini online. This is my first post with my new rig, and I gotta say, it feels pretty good to be pc free. Short and sweet.

Nice!  I'm on my fourth Mac but the odd thing is my "main" rig is my Macbook Pro I bought four years ago and it is still running hard.  The rest are simply to do specific things better than my other computers (a Macbook for the wife, a 10" Air for work, and a Mac Mini for a music server).  Did I mention my iPad and iPhone?

Try out Decibel for Mac for a music player...I found it very lean and clean...good things...with an off-board DAC!

Best,
John

I'm using BitPerfect for my music software. I'll check out Decibel, thanks. My first Apple product was an Apple TV, still have it. A few months ago I got a tricked out MacMini for my music server, and for Christmas, my honey got me an iPhone. She brought the first Apple product in about 5 years ago, her Macbook. What really cracks me up, I have 4 Apple bits floatin around here to her two. HA!  I need help.

We are slowly converting, but not there yet.

I have an iTouch.  My wife has an iPhone 4s.  We bought an Ipad 2 at Christmas.  I have an old Mac Mini kicking around that I bought used, but it is just sitting at the moment.

We still have a main PC upstairs that is PC (XP Pro, 2003!), and I will likely always have a work laptop that will always be Windows of some kind.

Toying with the idea of dropping the old PC in favour of the aged Mini, but not quite there yet.

I have an old mac mini with the single core processor. I am using it as a music server and it works very well for  this application. The headphone jack is also a toslink output so you won't get wrapped up in all the USB debate. I use it this way with Decibel as playback, I don't mess with itunes and the sound is very good. I have 3 tb of storage hooked up, nice access to the music collection. You should give it a shot.

And I will say this "old" Mac Mini will be much more trouble free than any new PC, but that's just me.
