REL subwoofer connected to Stratos Dual Mono

Anyone using a REL sub?  I just got one.  Its neutric leads have 3 wires.. 1 right ch., 1 left ch. and 1 ground.  Instructions say to connect left ch. to left +, ground to left -, and right ch. to right +.  When I did this, the REL developed an immediate ground loop hum (loud).  I tried a "cheater" plug for the REL power and that seemed to work until I turned off the Stratos, then the REL hummed very loudly.  Long story made short, I finally, desperately, hooked the REL ground black wire to the stratos chassis.  All hum went away, EXCEPT when I turned off the stratos.  Then, the REL hummed, but not as bad as before.  This happens after a relay in the stratos changes state (turn on the stratos, relay changes state, and hum goes away).  Something is happening inside the Stratos to the grounds when the relay changes state.
Another issue here is that the REL instructions say to connect the black lead (gnd) to the chassis when you use a balanced circuit.  I was using the single ended inputs (RCA).  Don't you just love grounding problems?

That is correct.  You are having grounding problem with your REL sub.  You simply ground the black wire to the chassis of the amp.  I had the same problem many years ago.  Give Sumiko Audio a call if you are still having issues.
