Roy's Remarkable RMx System
« on: 14 Jan 2012, 10:07 pm »
I have a friend and VMPS customer Roy, in Vegas and am lucky enough to be able to visit (and stay) with him and his wonderful wife Donna each year.

Roy has a REMARKABLE system and more Vinyl and Turntables than the Law Allows!!!!.  He said his record collection has been valued at $450,000 :o :o :o

Yes that is right, $450K, with most of the pressings being rare, special editions, and or Audiophile discs.

Roy also has 3 turntables and too many arms, cartridges and phono preamps to count.

His Speakers are VMPS RMx that look like something out of War of the Worlds or The Day the Earth Stood Still.

These are complimented with a PAIR of OMG (with TC Sounds Drivers) VSS subs.  The VSS are powered by the venerable CROWN K2 1000wpc amps as are the Woofer sections of his RMx.

His Preamp is the $7500 AMBROSIA that along with the AMPZILLA 2000 Second Editions recently won the Editors Choice award from ABSOLUTE SOUND.

The AMBROSIA also has two Phono Preamps in it.

Pretty heady gear.

The other night after the Show, we sat down and spun up some great albums, including JAZZ at the PawnShop.

Here are a couple pics of the system:

Did you fit his RM/X with the new CDWG's?

The design of the RMx and the scooped out baffle doesn't actually benefit as much from the CDWG as the larger baffle speakers.  As well the grill would not fit over the retro-fitted CDWGs, so we didn't.

Here is another couple photos of Roy's record collection.  These only show "part" of it.

Note B's comment at the end??

I strongly suspected what John is now confirming. The RMx baffle design eliminates most of the problems associated with the flat/wide baffle.  The CDWG's do little to improve upon this.
I've had the new CDWG's on & off of my RM40's dozens of times now, and while I fully agree they improve clarity and focus, they have their own problems.  In my opinion the speakers sound more natural/open/realistic without them, so I'm not using them.
