Purchased by another company, the rumors say. Anyone can confirm this?

Sad to see Stax going that route.

Stax has done very little compared to competition in las several years ... they were seriously lacking in quality amps for their own headphones ... apparently their vintage amps were better - allegedly the older amps had better transformers and tubes ...

Hopefully the new money and leadership will take them back to their roots and also provide new direction for new products through R and D ...

Just think about it - Brian Fang - a young guy, who came on the audio scene may be 4 years ago is spanking Stax's flagship products at 1/3 the price of Stax ...

I see it as an opportunity for Stax ... it was not keeping up with the times - too expensive and no competitive enough with plethora of headphone related products and price pressure ...

Very true when it comes to electrostat amplifiers.  However, Stax did just release the mighty SR-009, which arguably is the greatest transducer ever produced, headphones or speakers.  I am hoping the Stax purchase does not kill this product, and if we are lucky perhaps the pricing on the SR-009 will go down with the new money/distribution.  Perhaps some "trickle-down technology" electrostat at lower price point will be introduced.

Stax has done very little? For such a small company they've actually done quite a lot recently. They refreshed and updated pretty much their entire line of mid-level headphones. The SR-007 Mk2 was revised again (though supposedly for the worse) and they released the awesome SR-009. None of Stax's current amps can match the incredible SRM-T2, but they also don't cost anywhere near as much. The SRM-323S is definitely better than the amplifier it replaced, and is one of the very best SS amps the company has ever made.

SR-009 yes but way overpriced priced in the current economy  It is several times more expensive than their nearest competitor ...
They are smaller than likes of B and W etc. but much bigger than likes of Head-Direct and Audeze - their immediate competitors ...
They probably needed influx of money for R and D and hire new people to give the company another push ... hopefully this move will give them exactly that!
I was more wowed with their lower end line - the lamda line and less with the Omega - for what each brough to the table for the money ...
Cheers

Let’s hope the new money will help Stax out with R&D. Hopefully the product prices will come down without sacrifice sound quality.

An interesting article here from Inner Fidelity

"A new brand will be developed for lower cost electrostatic headphones.
Edifier will use its manufacturing strength to produce diaphragm material for Stax and the new brand".

I like how this sounds.  :)

Oh this is sad.

The only hope I have is, with the money from new owner, Stax can keep the designers and have a beeter road of development.

But maybe the new owner will just use the name, put some stuff in, and sell as quick as possible. If they do this, then it is over.
