Marantz 6300 turntable
« on: 28 Jan 2011, 06:49 pm »
On my latest yardsale hunt, I picked up a Marantz 6300 turntable. After knocking off about 20 years of dust, I was very surprised how well it cleaned up. (This is a beautiful turntable).
Anyone know when this was made?
It's missing the dust cover & hinges. Also missing the 45 adaptor. I would like to replace these with original parts. On Ebay, a cover goes for over $100, hinges $20 to $30, & a 45 adaptor is around $25 & still going up !!!! (wow).
Are these normal prices?
Is there a better place for me to look for these parts?
Thanks for any help or advice,
Mark

Mark,

Do you have pictures of it?

That model was manufactured around 1975.
I don't know much about prices though.

This was Marantz's top of the line direct drive during the period that Tom said. It has an odd pivot to spindle distance of 216mm, and while that in itself is not odd, the slots in the headshell are not long enough for any alignment but a Stevensons, if I recall. Not that that is horrible, but the alignment is certainly dated. The anti-skating is a little funky as well.

Looks cool and a great find for you. It is what is it, however.

I bought mine new in 1976 and I think they ended production in 1978.  I used the Shure V15 Mark III cartridge and stylus.  It had a great sound set up like that.  Unfortunately, Shure no longer makes that cartridge.  I found the Audio Technica  AT-120E/T to be superior in sound than the Shure and at a better price in 2011 than the V15 was in 1976.
