I've had a number of current production EL34s, but in the end I settled on NOS Siemens.  They can be had for not too much dough.

I recommend the JJ 6CA7. I have replaced my Treasures with them to a very positive effect. They take some time to break in, but reward with lucious, juicy, full bodied sound. They just sound like music.

Just received a quad of the JJ 6CA7s, how many hours doesn't it take for them to open up?

I'm running a quad of JJ 6CA7 in my Van Alstine Ultravalve, replaced the stock EH tubes. They sound great. I did not regret the purchase. Besides, they are not that expensive. Check out Eurotubes.com.

i liked the Ei 6CA7, the Winged C EL34 and the GL KT77. the EH 6CA7 can be very good depending on the amplifier and delivers deeper bass than your typical EL34.
