ADC Sound Shaper Three - IC

I am on a mission to try and clean some of the stuff out of my basement and while digging around today I came across an ADC Sound Shaper Three - ic. I received this from a friend perhaps 7 years ago and have not even removed it from the box until today. I checked with him and it's been in that same box since the early 80's and was almost unused even then, the thing looks brand new.

Has anyone used one of these equalizers? It is tempting to incorporate into the system with the thought of adjusting some of the exceptionally shitty recordings I own. The downside is that it's bloody huge but so cool looking in a retro way. I am going to bring it up gently with a variac since the caps have not seen voltage in almost 30 years.  :o

Hmm, random thought, I could do a retro system for the office at work. Carver C4000 preamp, the ADC eq, Hafler XL-280 and some naked Vandersteen 2ci's. Just need a turntable to complete the setup. 'Course I'd have to figure out where to put it all but it would be kinda cool I suppose.

I have never used one but I would love to hear about your experience trying it out in your main system. And you'll have to post a pic too!

See what happens when you try to tidy up the house and tie up those loose ends? You end up with a yet another project.   :icon_lol:

Great way to start off the new year.  :thumb:

In Aug 2011, I bought an ADC SS-II IC on ebay from the original owner for $50. It works great. I dont use it all the time, but for some harsh 80's recordings (vinyl) it can tame the high end, or give me a little extreme low end boost through my Magnaplaners.

Use and enjoy it.
