tell me more about open baffle subs

Hi,
I am interested in an open baffle sub for a 2 channel music only system.  I have a pair of the N2x's with an emotiva ultra 12 sub.  I have read and heard about not having to load the room with this type of sub.  What does that mean?  Would I see/hear a big improvement over my current sub.  Thanks!

With open baffle bass the room is not pressurized like what you get from a sealed or ported box sub.

The output cancels at 90 degrees off axis. So you have a lot of output in front of it and behind it but not to the sides.

The result is a cleaner sound without so much room shaking.
