Cornet2 just finished, a few questions.
« on: 3 Jan 2012, 09:18 am »
Hello,
Just finished my Cornet2 build and it sounds fantastic, exceeding all my expectations. :D Will post pics when I get my camera operating. I have a couple of questions, I had a loud hum even though I was very careful on the grounding. Eliminated most of the hum, but still a small amount of residual. I read that some people are using a star ground, but some sound like they are making one seperate from the lug for the phono cable. I would think that would be risky for a ground loop. Also, could anyone recommend a good tonearm cable, say up to $150.00. A side note, my htr voltage was anemic although I installed a Mills 1.5 ohm at r223, I have since found that all my Mills 1% are out of spec. The 1.8s test at 2.1' the 1.5s test at 1.8 and the 1.2s test at 1.5, so I guess I will order a 1.0 to get 1.3.

Cheers,
Shawn P.

Save your money and get a standard grade wirewound or metal oxide for R223.
Inductance is a plus in that spot.

Thanks for the responses! Hum turned out to be placement and crappy interconnects, she's dead silent now. :thumb: Picked up a Mills 1.0 ohm for 223, it measured 1.31. Installed it and my htr. Voltage is now about 6.28.

Cheers,
