I got an email about XRCD offerings, not sure why but I was wondering do they playback in a regular CD player or do I need a different piece of gear?

Got one. "Holst The Planets" L.A. Philharmonic. Zubin Mehta is the conductor. JVCXRCD 24bit.-0228-2
Plays just fine on my Marantz SA8004. But I can't hear any difference between it and a regular CD recording of the same on the Marantz player..

Hey!! Don't take my word for it. I think you should try it and decide for yourself. Old saying "different strokes for different folks"

I own a few XRCD's.  The XRCD24's are the best.  They are usually better sounding than standard CD's but not always.  They sound better mostly because they are meticulously remastered.  If the recording was good to begin with then there wont be much change is what I have found.  XRCD's really shine with taking old recordings and remastering them.
