4B SST2 External Voltage trigger question
« on: 17 Dec 2011, 08:27 pm »
So I just moved my 4B to my HT setup to see how it sounds.
I wanted to use the 12V trigger that my Marantz sr6005 receiver outputs for switching the amp on/off. To my dismay and surprise there is not receptacle for the 12v jack. Instead I saw this funky connector that takes bare wire and needs continuous voltage to stay on if I understand the manual correctly.
Is this just the same thing as a DC trigger or something else?
In that case I can just clip off the jack, expose some bare wire and stick it in.

If not... I need help...

Yes, it's the same thing so cut off that plug!

Awesome... Big relief and Thanks!!

Now James might be able to answer this if it has not already been done...
why the funky connector, bare wire et al? instead of the standard connector?

Well it sure is a LOT easier to just run any old bit of wire whatever distance you happen to have need of, rather than having to buy some stupid 'special' connector.
Glad the Bryston does NOT use a standard connector for my 25 foot run from preamp to amp.

Hi

I would assume like myself the amps are between the speakers and the source gear near the seating area?

This may sound kind of rookie-like but.....would anyone care to show some pics on how this is done? Can you use some 16/18 ga speaker cable?
By sticking the bare wires into the slot....is this spring-loaded so it doesn't slip out?

thanks...

Can I use either the top or the bottom pair?
Is there a polarity issue at work?
I use the bottom pair... and its not working for me...

The back panel connector is labeled "OUT" for the left-side pair and "IN" for the right-side pair.  You would use the right-side pair of "IN" terminals and the External Turn-On switch must be set to the "External" position. (The left-side "OUT" pair of terminals would pass this turn-on voltage to another trigger-equipped component, if desired)

It accepts either AC or DC input voltages of 4V - 12V and polarity should not matter.
