trying to find Cowgirl song for bass fine tuning
« on: 29 Dec 2011, 03:22 pm »
Hello,

I'm trying to find a song that has cowgirl in the title. It has a prominent bass line that runs throughout the song and people typically use this song for fine tuning bass in there system or setting up a subwoofer. I am having difficulty locating the artist, title or album. I would appreciate help locating it. In addition, if there are other tracks that are recommended for this purpose  please let me know.

Thanks, Garth

I don't know about a 'cowgirl', but it sounds like you're talking about the song recommended for the Master Set process;

The Set Up Recording:
Ballad of a Runaway Horse by Jennifer Warnes:
You can find this song on Jennifer Warnes – Famous Blue Raincoat, 20th Anniversary Edition, or Rob Wasserman – Duets, or Trios
This song works because of its simplicity and the steadiness of the voice line and the bass line, especially the bass line.
Other recordings could be used provided that they have a simple steady bass line that is easy to hear. I’ve found the above song to work best.

Thank you for the input. I could have sworn that it was something like 'say goodbye to the cowgirl' or something like that  that was the popular song for this purpose. Interestingly, the song "cowgirl" is referenced in the master set thread but I looked on the blue raincoat album and there is no cowgirl song. I will look into your recomendation. thanks, Garth

Say Goodbye to the Cowgirl is one of the lines in the song that etcarroll posted.

That is the song you are looking for.

Try Emmylou Harris's - "Cowgirl's Prayer" album for the song "Ballad Of A Runaway Horse"

Here's one when I heard it has a nice meaty kickdrum throughout:
Tracy Lawrence:How a cowgirl says goodbye
Just sets up the instruments with a very solid foundation,
cd title is The coast is clear.
Amazon.com you can listen to part of the song to see if she's the one :thumb:..

Grab that Dean Peer record produced by cardas.  It's all bass and drums.  While I can't listen to more than 45 sec of it as a piece of music, it's really well recorded and great for setting up a subwoofer....

Emmylou's "Even Cowgirls Get The Blues" has a very pronounced bass line. It's on her "Blue Kentucky Girl" album.

? Underworld - Cowgirl from dubnobasswithmyheadman

I don't think a bass line kicks in until like 2:00.

Underworld - River of Bass from the same album can really pressurize a room with its bassline:

dubnobasswithmyheadman is the album that defined my introduction to electronica, and really changed the path of my music listening...a sonic landmark perhaps.

I played bass in a garage band(oh god it was 3 decades ago!), enjoyed my part in 'Cowgirl In the Sand' by C.S.N. & Young. Its a classic.
