I went to see it the other day. For me, it's probably one of the better Marvel Studios films released yet. Hugo was great as Red Skull and it wasn't overly silly and carried a decent comic-book style storyline. I'd give it a recommendation for comic book fans and action movie fans alike.

Has an extra scene after the credits roll, for those interested.

Most of the movies i've seen have an extra scene after credits...that's why i always leave after the credits are over.

Thanks highfilter.  :thumb:

I'll post my impressions soon.

I've always been disappointed by the movie industry's take on the super heroes of my youth. I don't expect this one to be any different.

Saw this last weekend since Captain America's always been one of my favorite characters.  Thought it was one of the better superhero movies I've seen in a while.  While not as good as say Iron Man, the 1st Spidey, or The Dark Knight, it was better than Thor, Green Lantern, etc.  So, above average and worth watching, but not great.  My only complaint is that some of the characters, including Cap, were a bit flat.

Looking forward to The Avengers.

I saw it this week and enjoyed it.  I'm NOT a fan of comicbook movies and have avoided most of them, but this one was fun!

He doesn't have the same tech as Iron man, or the powers of thor. But he is courageous and the acting was fine, i give it 4 of 5 stars. Lets hope they come out with the Avengers soon.

Do you guys think Chris Evans as the super hero should have been more powerful?  He was showing all that muscle? But, somehow, when he "descends" on a mess and there would ensue with fighting, he doesn't seem to flex much muscles, as a "comic" super hero should be (in my imagination)?  He just looked mundane.

No I think that was the point - his courage and character, unlike Thor for instance, is based on the strength he draws from *inside*. The scene with the grenade test tells alot, even without the experiment he would have been a hero albeit a scrawny one. It;s a great counterpoint to other characters like Thor and Iron Man who to a certain degree 'inherit' their abilities (one by birth, one by wealth).

This film way, way overmet my expectations - definitely one of the best films of the summer. Chris Evans really won me over. He's come a ways since the Fantastic Four (yuck). It can't compete with mega blockbusters like Spiderman and Dark Knight. It just doesn't have the budget, but they do a lot with a little and frankly if Batman Begins had as emotionally engaging an origin story, Dark Knight would have been more rewarding.

I haven't seen this one but I will soon. I gotta say though, I really enjoyed Thor. It was as close to the comic of my childhood as could be hoped for in 2011. I really believe they got it right. Hopefully when it comes out on Bluray it can garner some second opinions.

... And as far as superhero battle scenes, I think Thor's have been the best and most "super".

But anyway, looking forward to seeing Captain America. I hope Taskmaster is in the movie. Probably won't be, but I can dream.

I finally caught Captain America at the cheap/2nd run theater and was very impressed! :thumb:  Probably be one to pick up on BR.  Chris Evans was much better as Cap than as The Human Torch, IMO (btw- really odd having the same actor playing 2 different characters in the Marvel Universe!  But Torch was killed off in the books so it probably won't come up again).

This has me really salivating for the upcoming Avengers movie, too!  From what I've seen so far the casting is excellent.  I think they really nailed the part of Thor, and of course Robert Downey Jr as Stark/Iron Man is absolutely perfect.  Looking forward to seeing Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and of course the notion of Scarlett Johanson in her skin tight leather is pretty appealing, too. :eyebrows:

Just watched this with my oldest son and we both really enjoyed it.  I thought the choice of actors was very good and the story was simple, but moved along nicely.

Never read the comics, so I can't say if it was authentic or not.

Out of all the comic based movies, I would put this in the upper middle of the pack.

Just watched the bluray with jr. (16 yr old) and both went, meh.  Good predictable story, good acting, great time period sets and costumes.  Special effects were impressive.  I was doing fine until the Star Wars rip offs start creeping in.  Same weapons, clone warriors, right down to the same sound of the rifles being fired.  That really lost me.  Glad I waited for the dvd to come out.  Regardless, still much better than any chick flick I would have to watch with the wife.

Fwiw, Hellboy II: The Golden Army is my comic book high water mark.
