Playing Hi-Rez Downloads on my PC
« on: 23 Nov 2011, 03:12 am »
I just downloaded some hi-rez tracks from HDtracks, and I want to have the ability to listen to them (with headphones) occasionally rather than firing up my 2 channel rig.

I use iTunes for all of my digital music, but I don't mind using another player just for FLAC files.
I know I can convert the FLAC files for use with iTunes, but I'm not sure I want to go that route. Hence the thought of a dedicated player for hi-rez.

I looked at Foobar and JRiver as options. JRiver looks cool, but I don't need a whole media center. I believe Foobar is simply a player (with ripping and other capabilities), which may be better for me.

I did some research on this circle but I am still just beginning.

My PC has plenty of RAM and HDD space and an Integrated NVIDIA HD Audio device for sound.

Any advice on playing or players or other options would be most welcome.

Thanks,

James

Foobar2000 has been an excellent player on my PC Music Server!  It plays FLAC format without any issues.

Thanks HAL, I am leaning toward trying Foobar2000.
I should have mentioned I am running Win7 on my PC.
