JBL LSR305 (Active)

OK, on the active bandwagon again (and not wanting to hijack a thread)...

2-way (professional), waveguide 1 inch tweeter, 5 inch woofer, 41 watt amps, F3 = 43 Hz, peak spl = 108 dB, wide dispersion, excellent dynamics/low volume sound/imaging, street price $300/pair (add $12 for a pair of XLR/RCA adaptors), excellent reviews for home or studio use - example:

Add a matching JBL LSR2310SP 10 inch sub, street price as low as $200.  That leaves $500 for interconnects and source.

Speaking of interconnects, is there a better alternative than the $6 adapters suggested by Steve for RCA only systems?

I'm sure there is, but I'm too "old school" to care.  Besides I go to Scott Endler for any audio cabling needs (good prices, good quality, support one of the 'little guys').

It was in the review by Steve Guttenberg linked in the op.  They were a 3' interconnect with RCA to 1/4" connections.  The cabling and connectors looked like the $6 price.

There are many alternatives for higher quality 1/4" to RCA cables for not too much money.  Markertek can build cables from either Belden 1192A or Mogami Neglex 2534 shielded Star-Quad with Switchcraft or Neutrik connectors in various lengths and colors for ~ $19 each (3') and ~ $24 each (6').

Most home audio gear use low voltage connections that is commonly termed as RCA terminals (single pin with surrounding/conducting sleeve).  Professionals (studio and concert) use multi-pin XLR connectors to reduce grounding/shielding/pullout (they snap in place) issues often associated with studio/concert situations.  Opinions vary as to which (XLR or RCA) sounds the best (under ideal conditions).  Occasionally you find XLR on home gear or RCA on professional stuff, so the adapters allow for mixing of equipment.

If you haven't already seen, nice deal on these @ Sweetwater:

My rig is now in a small room and I've been wondering about actives, being able to reduce, consolidate, etc...
while maintaining the level of sonic quality. I'll have to give these a try.
Thanks for the heads-up on them.
