Main, a Two-channel Audio System by lalla
Room Size
900 sqft with two story cathedral ceiling
System Overview
Still working backwards a bit. The most expensive components are bogging down my progress at present.
Music Preferences
Classical (vintage mostly), Jazz (pre-1970), and a little Rock (post-1970) when in my cups.
Room Description
900 sqft with cathedral ceilings. Floors are a mixture of wood, carpet and area rugs. Biggest drawback is the configuration, as this is a 'great room', including our kitchen, dining and sitting areas. This limits speaker placement considerably - something my wife and I are constantly at odds over. I have an ideal space in the house for a good sized listing room, but, being the cook in the house, I spend much of my time in the kitchen. So, in the 'great room' I stay.
Acoustic Treatment
None. Lots of heavy and overstuffed furniture seems to do the trick though.
Listening Impressions
A bit forward for my taste really, but very detailed and expansive. One great thing about Cornwalls, and all horns for that matter, is that they can truly fill the air with sound - and with little effort. So, the Cary is pure over-kill. I am certain that my speakers would be better served by fewer watts with greater inner detail.
Media Storage
Shelves, stacks, boxes . . .
Other Comments
I will eventually replace the Cary and the Accuphase with reconditioned gear from The Fisher, HH Scott, something similar, DIY, a combination thereof. I need to sell the Cary first. Just haven't gotten around to it yet. Cary makes beautiful components, but their transformers leave much to be desired. I want better iron to drive my Cornwalls properly and to give me a better sound floor.
