Speakers

A collection of wonderfull cabinetry and genuine love of the art of speakermaking. Yeah, none of them are DIY, but all prototypes do start as just one pair of diamonds in the rough! Yeah yeah, And there is gonna be lots of gems from Norway in here as well...not always made here but still! Guess where I'm from...
Thumbnail for I'm told to really get lost in the music, you must get up and dance... - And we all know it takes two to...Tango!

Oh! I had to include this speaker in my gallery!
Even if it was just to be able to write the above..
Hehe!! Nice!!
Acoustic systems Tango, uhm or maybe it's Avatar "Tango"?
Not sure of that.
Now excuse me while I face the music... and dance.. with mrs Krall.
I just wish she could Tango...
Thumbnail for Bowers & Wilkins model 801 Diamond series. - Apart from my first love, The Infinity IRS, this speaker come in at a good second.
Having heard it on many occations over the years, and in Gen III, Gen IV (Nautilus series)
and now Gen V (Diamond series) iterations. The last generation is a product of a
Danish B&W engineer by the way.
The Gen II was a mature product, Gen III and IV was difficult to master.
But with this Gen V iteration, it seems that B&W is back on track with this monster!
I don't have room for it, but wish I had! On my short list!

Jean Maurer 370 E

Ok. Why in my gallery?
Well, it's got filters with 20, 38, 49 and 70db/oct steepness... Ouch!!
Filtres répartiteurs à très...
But it's only a 3-way.. 650/3000 construct.
3 ohm load.

I love the looks of this brute of a speaker!
Thumbnail for Amphion Krypton 2, This time it's a Finnish/Danish co-project. - The new Krypton speaker. (soundstage photo)
This time it's got a titanium tweeter and new mids.
Well, the designer talk about it here:
http: /www.audioasylum.com/audio/speakers/messages/26/266265.html
so I'll leave it at that.
I just love the look of the Krypton! Not heard this one yet, but I'm gonna!!
Haha!!!

The sub in the background there is the Impact 500. I've only heard that sub
paired with the Xenon model, and it really does tranform the Xenon that pairing.
I always thought the Xenons were quite dynamic, but with a impact 500 in the mix..
well, it really did transform that speaker into a beast!!
Thumbnail for This is a horn speaker. - But a different breed of horn speaker indeed.
It's a "Vertical Split" horn speaker called VSS Ultima.
It's also a horn speaker with no cabinet...sort of
It goes down to 20hz and sounds like thunder and silence in a mix!
It's got the impulse response sort of like that of a 'stat; immensely fast..
10 degrees phase error (actually less!) from 20hz to 30khz
and -1db, 1.5db frequency deviation.
Crazy specs, that is sure.
It'll take 1000w of amp power and live to tell about it. 91db efficient.
Yes... it's from Norway. No, it's not a viking style totem pole!!! It's a Forsman VSS!
Yeah, and it uses driver earthing, like Tannoy uses.
I've heard a demo with this type of mods and it clearly works this type of earth-thingie stuff..
what ever. It works!
Thumbnail for Overkill Audio "The Finale". - I believe this is the first pair delivered
of this new flagship model from Derek Wilson.
Photo taken by owner at delivery, and that was at the
beginning of May. So this is like really recent indeed!
Cool look indeed!
In the rack one can also see Overkills
Conductor and End Game pre/NOS-dac/DSP-crossover system.
That is one lucky owner! Dang!!!
Thumbnail for I found a picture on my old HD here the other day of a really good classic
speaker! The Paragon!!! Wow! Dynaudio super DRONE speaker this.
Uses Bruzezze cabinet tech and that stuff... Awesome speaker. Not made anymore..

Most likely one of the best ever designed this one... awesome stuff!

Uses ...(I know, it is a secret..) a special compund dampening, that I have tested myself...
And it is a SHAME that this speaker never was discovered!!! A SHAME!!!

One of the best dynamic designs made, ever!!! Imho!!
Thumbnail for QRS Nebulosa. - Just me trying a new paint program I got.
Original photo has sort of been "tweaked a bit".
The speaker is a QRS Nebulosa, from Sweden.
The bottom cabinet contains no less than 3 x 10" subwoofer
drivers. 1 forward (closed cabinet)
2 in a isobaric chamber venting down.
So this is a very massive passive - subwoofer with very awesome
capacity in the nether regions, and a mid/tweeter module on top.
No need to augment with subs says the makers, below 18hz maybe then.

I like base power, so this sounded so awesome to me that in my gallery it went!
Base power!
Full frequency dynamics then, and seriously hung
in the nether regions.
Uhm, of course I didn't take the makers words for this!
Hifi&Musik - a swedish magazine wrote on this speaker.
Extremely wide sweetspot, composed, slightly laidback
and a total refusal to lose control regardless of volume level.
Ease of placement and if you got the amplification power
required: Base power, that shocked the testing panel
so bad, that they simply stated:
"Well, to put this lightly, you will not be needing that pair of 15"
servo controlled subwoofers..."
Oh my!!! I'm a sucker for this type of writing!! I admit it
I was born a woofer lover, what can I say.

Thumbnail for It doesn't look real this. But it sure sound like it.. - Nice box! Harbeth 40.1
I like the way it looks, that's all.
Thumbnail for Tannoy Yorkminster SE - THis is a real cool speaker.
It will do 12hz -6db !!! Fur real!!! 12hz in-room!!!
12 inch bass driver. 2 inch pepperpot tweeter.
220 liters cabinet. 140lbs heavy. 93db efficient.
Did i say it will do 12hz inroom? I did... 12hz!!!
You wanna use tubes, in a fairly big room.
So you get it to go all the way to 12hz. 12hz!!!
Talk about bonechrushing bass power!!!
And the really neat trick is that this power scales back
almost to whisper levels, and it's still there, that deep LF power.
A bit narrow dispersion but hey... 12hz!
Will play anything, louder than a lot of other speaker.
Could be better abover 5000hz, Tannoy still could improve their pepperpot, just a tince...
Funny enough it can be filtered down at 5000hz, allowing for say a ACAPELLA ION TW 1S (Ionic Tweeter) maybe to take
over from there. Should fit nicely on top of the cabinet those!.
Now that would be a ... marvel!!!
Can be bi-amped, or with a Acapella ion tweeter... tri-amped.
A 12hz capable tube amp, is of course a bit of a challenge to find but I'm
sure they exist.
I think it can handle 500watts of power. Of course if you're ever in the
room when you actually use that... that would be a very very bad Idea...

Thumbnail for Respons Magna Musicum.
Neutral, Etheral, Dynamic like a freqqin Nuke - yet extremely micro-dynamic as well.
Needs kind of powerfull amplifier.
Aprox 20 thou Dollarsis in price.
What to say. High-Dollar and extreme top end Ultimate company product killer..
You do not wanna put your high dollar 400k $ top model next to this one in a demo...
There will be tears...
