Thumbnail for SCA-35 - Faceplate with bent corner - Too bad this faceplate was damaged in transit. Improper packing can turn a treasure into trash in an instant. We'll have to look elsewhere for a decent faceplate.
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - Factory Wired - Here's a "View From the Top" of a factory-wired Dynaco SCA-35. Rust and corrosion appear to be a "deal-breaker" here. We'll have to look for a non-factory-wired unit for better metal parts.
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - Factory Wired - Rusty and Crusty! - Looks like this factory-wired amplifier was stored in a damp location. This rust is just the tip of the iceberg. There's more rust and corrosion inside.
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - Factory Wired - Look at all those rivets! - Rust on the chassis and rivets attaching the Printed Circuit Boards. We'll need to select better metal parts for our project. Drilling rivets out is no picnic either. We'll use a kit-built unit that will provide a better foundation.
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - Factory Wired Label - Here's the Serial Number Label indicating a factory-wired SCA-35. Too bad this one is in poor condition.
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - Dangerous wiring! - Here is a picture of one of our kit-built "donor units." Notice the scorched insulation and poor lead dress. OUR finished unit *should* be a LOT better!
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - Where's the solder? - Here is a picture of one of our "donor units." Notice anything missing? Perhaps our original owner wondered why this amplifier was less than reliable. You would *think* he might have tried to solder the AC wiring, but nope! Not here! He also forgot to solder the AC wiring to the side of the fuse holder! WE won't forget!
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - These USED to be resistors. Not anymore! - Here's another picture of our kit-built donor unit. Notice the two 5 Watt resistors? The upper one is cracked in half. The lower one has shed its case. It is also open. Perhaps the poor wiring job caused a short that killed them both.
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - Factory Wired - Punched in the fuse holder MUCH later! - Once again, we have to deal with a Dynaco unit that was "punched" in at the fuse holder due to improper packing for shipment. In this case, it's not that big a loss. The rest of the unit is in pretty rusty and crusty condition. Too bad because this was wired at the factory.
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - Factory Wired - Rear Panel - Here is a picture of one of our "donor units." This is a factory-wired SCA-35, but its condition is abysmal. Rust, bent metal, corrosion = nothing good!
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - Inside Front Panel after cleaning - Here is a picture of the inside of our "reclaimed" front panel after cleaning. Other than a few *teensy* spots, it cleaned up quite nicely!
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - Outside Front Panel after cleaning - Here is a picture of the outside of the Front Panel after a thorough cleaning. Looks almost NEW, doesn't it?
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - reclaimed chassis - BEFORE cleaning - Here is a picture of our "donor" chassis before cleaning. Looks pretty nasty, doesn't it? It WILL look MUCH better!
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - Faceplate - not exactly pristine! - Here is the faceplate of one of our "donors." If condition is everything, this one is close to nothing! A bent corner and a LOT of missing lettering will send THIS one to the scrap pile.
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - MORE Dangerous wiring! - Another look at our "donor unit's" construction problems. Notice that the wires to the eyelets aren't exactly soldered very well. I'll bet this thing made as much static as it made music - maybe more!
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - New (NOS) Controls, PEC modules and the main Selector Switch. - Here is a complete set of NOS potentiometers, NOS PEC modules and a NOS Selector switch. These components will go a long way toward creating one last (mostly) NEW Dynaco SCA-35 Integrated Amplifier.
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - reclaimed chassis parts - AFTER cleaning - Here is a picture of all the cleaned chassis parts in "as-assembled" order. This will make a dandy foundation for our SCA-35 build.
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - Bottom of Bottom Panel after cleaning - While not perfect, this is a LOT better than the nasty, dirty bottom panel we started out with.
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - Bottom of Bottom Panel before cleaning - Here is the bottom of the Bottom Panel before cleaning. Pretty nasty!
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - Top of Main Chassis after cleaning - Here is our "reclaimed" main chassis for the SCA-35. This is a view from the top. MUCH better!
Thumbnail for SCA-35 - Bottom of Main Chassis after cleaning - Here is the cleaned "reclaimed" chassis for our SCA-35 project. MUCH better!
