A new servo sub going to the show

Here are a few pics of a servo sub that has just been built out. It is being loaned out to a friend of mine for him to use in his room at RMAF.

The top and bottom are a high gloss Black and the sides are wrapped in Carbon Fiber.

The body of the cabinet is 1" thick and there is a brace every 3". The ends are 1.25" thick.

Here is a close up of the insides that are also lined with No Rez.

Nice!!

Danny -- how does this single servo sub in a sealed box compare to the dual OB DIY sub you offer? Do they sound virtually identical?

Very nice.
I like the CF on the sides.  Nice mix

Danny, forgive my ignorance here, but wouldn't there be a better dampener for use in a sub, something like Dynamat? It seems that the layers of foam intended for higher freq absorption are not useful in there, no?

Very nice Danny! I like the looks of that one.

OK - who you lending it out to? (gotta make sure I catch a listen)

I assume CF is for appearance. Epoxy layed, inside and out at 45 degrees, even over a balsa core, would create an arguably stiffer box. Good looker but really an expensive composite shell used as shown. Lucky you can obtain the stuff as the military had tabs on ALL of it back 3 years ago. I prefer this look on my spars and hulls.

Looks nice! Is that the 3m wrap? I want to try some of their matte colors they used for car wraps.

They load the room differently and that where the biggest difference in sound comes from.

The damping layer of No Rez is very much like that of Dynamat but is designed for MDF.  And a sub still benefits from a foam layer.

Yes, it is just for appearance.

I don't know who makes it but it is a laminate, not real Carbon Fiber.

Danny,  will you stuff this too with batting?  Or leave it with No Rez only.   I have always stuffed mine with lite fluffy stuff..   Wrong, Correct????/

It will get a nice layer of polyfill at the back of the box in front of the amplifier.

It's a pretty nice sub. I'd like to get $1,200 for it.

How low does she go?

Aside from the room piece, what are the specs?

Sure looks fine, Danny!  :thumb:

It is servo controlled. It will go as low as you want. It can play flat to 20Hz and be -3db down in the teens if you use the 14Hz extension filter. And the controls on the amp allow you to to change the damping settings, phase delay, rumble filter, and even variable band EQ.

Is that a standard opening for a plate amp and 12" driver? Or is the amp outboard? I've got this AV123 UFW-12 cabinet that could use an upgrade. What would the cost be for just an amp and driver?

Amps are $379 and woofers are $179.

That amp hole is not a common hole size though. All of those amps are different. None of them are too common.

Thank you for the prompt reply. Those prices are very reasonable! In the picture it appears that the cabinet is smaller than the UFW-12, if the speakers are of equivalent size, and the cut out for the amp appears to be bigger. Can you give the dimensions on those? I know a good carpenter who could modify  the box to make it work. Its already lined with No-Rez I obtained from Skiing Ninja. Would the larger box  negatively influence performance?
