Planar Porn - we want to see!
« on: 3 Oct 2010, 01:39 pm »
The downstairs which my neighbors don't seem to enjoy as much as I do

and the attic which has been converted into a monster master bedroom

a Maggie-based home theater room for my better half is in the planning stages which means my tax refund is already spent.

Low WAF Factor on the 20.1s - here's a PM from my better half:

Those speakers are a bit large, don't get any ideas or we will need a bigger house!

She speaks, I listen.  Sometimes.

Those sure are nice looking ESL's.  Is their bass output really as good as the Soundlab literature says?  I haven't heard those speakers them myself.

Hey Jazzman,
They are actually an Italian designed electrostat called " the Legato". I have had Soundlabs in the past and I like these a lot better. They are Koa wood with marble and I believe they are 1 of only 4 pair made. The builder had to quit for health reasons.
I really enjoyed your article on how you built your speakers. Talk about pride of ownership! This Planer Circle is going to be fun. Regards, Frank

I am seeing a number of these systems with the speakers set up within a couple of feet from the frontwall.  Being dipolars should'nt these be set up in a similar manner to OBs, away from the frontwall about 4' or so?  If not, why are they different?

Thanks,
Ed

Beautiful stuff, guys, keep them coming!

Ebag4,
Usually a couple feet out is good.  Here's a link to the Magnepan Owner's Manuals

http://www.magnepan.com/product_manuals

and they have a pretty good description on set up.

You are correct. Due to traffic patterns I have the actual listening position marked out on the floor and I move them out when critical listening. The stands make it very easy to move. I also added some damping materials behind them on the wall - not in photos. That helps as well.
