Opticis USB cable on battery power?
« on: 9 Mar 2007, 09:38 pm »
The downstream end of an Opticis USB fiber optic cable is powered via an AC converter (5V DC, 600mA).

Has anyone tried using battery power instead?  Better sound?  Theoretically better sound?

Also, does anyone think there would be a better result using 1) the Opticis cable that comes with the captive USB plug on the downstream end versus 2) the one that comes with a receptacle at the downstream end?  That is, is jitter introduced when you have to plug an additional USB cable into the Opticis downstream end receptacle?  (I know, this seems a little extreme, or perhaps there is no jitter when still in the USB domain?).

Check out Computer Audio forum at audioasylum.com.  A couple guys there rigged a battery solution for the opticis usb when it first came out, and they swear by it.  If I remember correctly, there was also a lone gent who tried it and preferred a heavily modded wall-wart type supply.

Texendo:  Thanks.  Good advice.  I will try the battery power pack.
