Title: Anyone read Ender's Game?
Post by: jqp on 30 Jan 2008, 03:17 am
Anyone read Ender's Game? Oh wait, this circle is named Enders Game!

As you may know, Ender's Game the excellent book by Orson Scott Card, describes a kind of weightless laser-tag strategy game that has inspired so many. We have discussed this in the past when there was talk of actually creating a video game.

Now it is closer to reality, in terms that many of us can relate to. (Anyone remember Descent? I played ii and iii on one of my old PCs.)

Great book but I'm not sure how it will translate into a video game. I think of it more as a strategy game ala RISK. Thanks for the link.

Of course, why do you think I named this circle Ender's game?  I mentioned this topic in Enticing Newly announced games.
OSC is a gifted writer that should be judged upon his literary works and not on his religious and an extension of that his phobias.  Do a search, as he just one a prestigious award.  He is forthcoming, though I may not agree with his views, I appreciate his honesty.
Damn, I hope they make this a good game and get the feel of the books.

Onto another great writer:

Now let's get a good Drizz't game out, with duel Wii nunchucks  :icon_lol:

I've never been able to take Salvatore's writing style.  I guess I'm just hard to please.  I don't like the guys that spell things out.

Hijacked-
So now that I have done that, what are some authors that us gamers like to read?

Great book.  Ender's Shadow was a bit more grim but also excellent.

I read the book as a wee lad (six years old or so), mostly because I liked the cover (hey, I was bookworm from the start). Took me a while to finish it, and it went almost entirely over my head ("mommy, what does 'genitals' mean?"), but I've read it several times since and it remains one of my favorites of all-time, nostalgia be damned. The sequels never really hit me, alas. They keep talking about making a movie but I don't know if it could work.

Beyond that? The 2nd hand on the statue of great '80s (heck, great EVER) sci-fi is "Neuromancer" by William Gibson. Great author by the way. Put that one of your list.
