Model T Signature with 28b3 or Active?
« on: 12 Jan 2019, 01:40 pm »
Just ordered a pair of Model T Signatures with passive external crossovers.
Two options now:
1. Passive with a pair of 28b3?
2. Or for the same price...an active setup with a BAX1 and smaller amps. I already have a 4b3 that I would just keep.

...That’s the reason why I went with Sigs. Flexibility... and to be able to ask myself that type of question...
😂😂
What do you think?

Have run 3 different active speakers over the last 15 years and would never go back.

I had a 4b3 powering a set of Model T Signatures with no issues whatsoever. Unless you listen extremely loud or have a very large room I’m sure you’ll be more than happy with your current amp powering the sigs.

Ok.
Are you using the Bryston cables with your crossover?
I did order a set.

No just some regular 10 gauge speaker cables

The PAX 1 external crossover comes with jumpers for single wire from amp or you can biwire or triwire from amp...remove some or all jumpers from crossover.

Ok.
Dam*!
Maybe I should just go that way then...
Have already a very nice pair of XLO Signature shotguns.
So if I get you right, should I return my passive crossovers and custom cables.
Buy a BAX now... and be even closer to my active setup...
Right?

OOPS.....I meant PAX 1 passive crossover not BAX 1......

But if you really want to go active then all you need is a couple 2.5b3 or 3b3

I was active with 2 3bsst and a 4bsst but unfortunately couldn’t afford the cubed series.

Ok. What is your setup now?
PAX1?
It’s confusing.
You still have your Model T?

PX1... that’s what I got right now.

Found it online.
Just a regular cable will work.
See picture.
You still needs 3 pairs from the Xover to the Model Ts.

I’ve owned the Model T internal passive & the Signatures both active & passive, also the Mini Ts. Bryston makes an excellent speaker, I recommend them to everyone. I have since moved on as I like to try different speakers.
Passive triamping isn’t the best but you’ll be one step closer to active.... my opinion a couple of 2.5b3 and  your 4b3 will be sufficient but you could go with the 3b3 if funds permit.

Same here.
Had the Mini Ts twice. (Appart & house).
Also had the Model Ts internal passive.
Tried other things and going back to Bryston.
... so I also agree that Bryston via Axiom build very good speakers. 😉

Until I have the money to get a BAX-1 and extra amps, I’ll use the diagram above.

I had the Model T passive with the 28b.

Then went to the Model T SIgnature version passive. Better sound in my ears.

Then to the Model T active with the BAX-1 crossover. Used a pair of 7b3's for the bottom end,
and a pair of 4b3's for the mid and highs. By far this is the best sounding setup.

So I would highly recommend going active as opposed to 28b's with the passive version.
You will not be disappointed.

BTW. I also tried a 4b3 for the Bass on the active model T's. The Bass was not nearly as
good compared to having the 7b3's on the bass.

Ok. Thanks adol290.
Great overview.
Already have a 4b3.
I was thinking more of a second 4b3 for the MIDS and maybe a 2.5b3 for the HIGHS.
++ room friendly going that way...
