I know that poor layout can impact performance, so I want to make sure I am doing a proper layout.  Does anybody have a picture of a proper N3 network?

Thanks.

I'll get a picture of mine if someone more experienced doesn't pretty soon.  I just don't want to know if I set mine up wrong, haha.

I'd send you a pic if I had one. So long as the inductors are turned different directions the rest is up to you and orientation doesn't really matter.

Caps are non-polar and work either way, but run them all in the same direction.

I've spoken with Patrick and am sending him some high res shots of one of our builds.

I'd like to see a shot of your build too if possible, just for comparison.

Hi,
You might find this interesting regarding the layout-

We optimize all networks to keep crosstalk as low as possible.  Sometimes size is an issue so while it may not always be technically 'perfect', there are still no symmetrical poles on the board.

Thanks,

Do you have a schematic to go along with that pic? I'm quite the newby and all I see is a nice layout - but the rest is greek.

The schematic is included with the kit and usually isnt published openly.

Fair enough. I just placed my order about 5 minutes ago so I guess I shall see it when it get's here.
It's like waiting for Christmas again!

Ok. After viewing the link provided by Voncarlos am I to understand that it would be best to keep the coils etc., as far apart as possible, and that the orientation of the coils etc., as seen in the pic provided by Sean is to compensate for having to install them so close to each other? Would wiring them in an outboard arrangement outside the cabinet where you could space them whatever way you want be better or is half the art still in keeping signal paths as short as possible?

Yes, the orientation you see is done because everything must fit in a small space.

If you went with an outboard network enclosure (highly recommended!), you can move them apart.  Personally I would build the tweeter and woofer circuits on separate boards and install into the external enclosure as far apart as possible.  That keeps the big woofer inductor away from the smaller tweeter inductors.

The Dayton cabinets from PE work well for this:

Sean

So if I built the network outside the cabinet, what would be your suggestion for bringing the 3 sets of wires to the speakers? Would I actually require 3 sets of binding posts?

Dave,

If you don't mind tethering the network to the speaker, you can do something like this:

Pretend this is the back of the speaker :)

Looks interesting Sean. Airtight grommets of some sort?

Maybe a Speakon connector would be an easier solution, just one hole.

That was suggested earlier and then rather quickly shot down. I have no experience with them so I can only rely (within my ability to understand) on what is posted here.
