Pedestales arrive Monday
« on: 1 Oct 2021, 02:07 pm »
I ordered a pair of Pedestale's from Danny's website and they are due to arrive Monday 10/4.  Any inputs on setup let me know.  I will power with an Onkyo receiver for now but am considering the Schiit Aegir or Vidar.  Music will be streaming only with a Bluesound Node 2i with Apple Music lossless and Hi Res using the Node 2i internal DAC for now.  Considering a Schiit BiFrost in the future.

Here are two good sources of information for setup:

The Audiopile's Guide book and companion SACD/CD. You need bothe the book and disc. The book has step by step instructions for setup and fine tuning. At each step i the process is: do this, play this track from the disc and you should hear this. If you don't, do this then replay the track. Each section and track cover a different aspect of setup and fine tuning.

Another resource is Ron's video on a process he calls LOTS, Loudspeaker Optimization Techniques for Loudspeakers

Thanks!  I watched it.  And I have the book as well, so glad to know that I am properly informed.

What kind of solder (brand name + type) should be used on the male tube connectors?

I use Cardas Quad Eutectic. It’s very strong and very conductive as it has Silver and Copper in it.

Thanks a bunch for the help on the solder.  I ordered some Cardas Quad Eutectic.  Also, I don't own a soldering iron and I need one for the tube connectors.  Is a $20 Weller from Lowes sufficient, or what do you recommend for a guy who may never use a soldering iron again after this?

The $20 25watt Weller will work just fine.

Thanks for all the help on this.  I ordered the solder gun and hope to get it and the solder today.  The fitting doesn't seem to be a crimp type so I assume the solder is not only to hold the speaker wire inside but also to seal the air out of the tube connector male fitting so that the copper wire doesn't oxidize over time, so I should make sure I use enough to accomplish both, right?

Read the sticky on Electra Tube Connector Installation Instructions before starting

I think Danny also has a video about installing tube connectors on his YouTube channel

I just got the male/plug ends of the connectors and no sticky.  It isn't obvious to me that you crimp the wire in the plug/male connector.  Do I just solder or do I really crimp first?
