Wafer Speakers

I thought I would check the PMC web site while waiting for the remainder of Ophelia to arrive. It looks like PMC will be coming out with new on/in-wall  speakers in November. There  are lots of pics and information on their website.

Looks like I may be able to go to 6.1 or 7.1, and fix my biggest problem which is my B&W surrounds. This isn't a knock on B&W, it's mostly a placement problem.

I hope they have done something special. I haven't been very impressed by on-wall, decor friendly speakers in the past.

Hi James:

I was wondering if the Wafer speakers are out yet and whether they have made it to Canada yet ?

Thanks.

Hi James:

I saw some Wafer speakers for sale on audiogon in the US. Are the wafer speakers available in Canada yet ? Have you heard them ?

Thanks.

James:

Do you have any impressions of the wafer which you would like to share ?

Perhaps where the wafers fall in the PMC lineup for sound quality ?

Thanks, Steve

We have a set of Wafer 1s in our demonstration room in my store, and I have just bought myself a pair of Wafer 2s for rear speaker duties. They are very nice speakers indeed, and I concur with James' take on their level of performance relative to the conventional loudspeakers.

They have also just been reviewed in the October edition of Hi-Fi Choice which I have taken the liberty of scanning for you to read. You can download it and view it here:

crusty,

That's an interesting thread. I know it hasn't been very long since you
received your wafers, but have you considered mounting them to the
ceiling ?

I'm in a similar situation with my listening couch against a wall and a
large window. I can't mount back speakers on the rear wall and
my current surrounds are less than ideal. My surrounds are at
radically different distances from the listening position and even
though their levels are balanced with a meter, it doesn't sound right
due to an echo from the left wall. I'm thinking it might solve a lot
of problems to use 3 or 4 ceiling mounted wafers for the surrounds
and backs.

Hi Jethro,

Sorry for the late reply, I don't visit these forums very often as they are US based and not of great relevance to me as a UK dealer. Anyway in answer to your question, no I had never considered mounting mine to the celing, I am perfectly happy with them in the position they are in right now. However I don't see any reason why it woudn't work just fine in your situation. The Wafers really are superb sepakers, especially the Wafer 2s.

Hi Crusty:

Likewise, I forget to visit avforums regularly. I posted a message to your Humble Home
Theatre thread.
