Hey all, I'm just getting Fex started on his HT build thread, this post is the last you'll hear from me, as far as posting for him, the rest is all him.
Looks like he's off to a good start!  :thumb:
=============================
Building-HT/2 Channel
I sold my grouper boat , and no longer need a place to store it.Therefore , the logical next step, would be , to build a room for HT/Audio .I will post pic's of the process.
After reading about room ratio's for way to long, the dimensions are 20x26x10 .
The construction spec's are a compromise based on budgetary constraints. Thanks to all of you for the advise i get from reading this forum.
Mike was probably the primary reason for this, as the first real system i ever heard was at his place.I was stunned with the sound.
Hopefully, the iron will pass inspection the am, and tomorrow the concrete will flow.
I am trying to find vermiculite in florida ,to insulate and soundproof the block and am finding that anything out of the norm is a problem to find!

The block is complete. Hoping the insulation company can foam today !

The block was pumped with concrete every 4 foot and the top block was pumped full also.Rerod is run every 4 foot and along side windows and doors , from the footing to the top.At the top the entire layer is wired with #5 rerod and is tied to the rods running to the footing rods. This is a Hurricane andrew code for florida buildings. You can see hurricane straps that are buried in concrete on top that are nailed to the trusses.
Monday should be truss day.Tuesday , an insulation company is drilling a 7/8 inch hole in each core of the block.(2 per block)Foam is pumped in to fill every nook and cranny. Its an r of 6 , but , also increases the STC rating on the walls. Will keep updating.

Thanks to Andrew, that's also the code nationwide.  Not sure about the width being exactly twice the height.  You should consider reducing to 18 feet via a wall of built-ins.

the interior wall is 18 '4''.the radio's are not within the Loudin formula.
so there 2.34x1.84x1.
hope its sounds good.

If you bring a wall back, it'll make room for an infinite baffle sub.  :icon_twisted:

Or better yet, more than one.   :thumb:

Two in the recessed wall, one in the ceiling, and one in the 4th corner of the room via an angled corner.   :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted:

The trusses are up and the 2 layers of high r are in place. They shoot 1x2 into the block to screw sheetrock in.
Tomorrow, the insulation will be pumped in.Hope to get a photo of the process. You can hear the room getting quite.

It will get "louder" again when you hang sheetrock.

Why block versus conventional construction?

Thanks Phil !
Actually, i could have done wood, but, allot more costly, not too hurricane resistant, and the biggy- termites!

Francis - be thankful we don't have these yet - http://www.wpbf.com/article/caribbean-termites-invade-south-florida/1315288

From what I understand (could be wrong), they can actually travel up and eat the material under the roof.

or these (as well yet) - http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/giant-invasive-snails-are-eating-stucco-off-florida-homes/CoZmPvnmrhBHzZSYjjignO/

Of course when you finish the room, I might have to check it out and eat all your popcorn   so you can post a story about those pesky Florida things eating something :green:

I'm in process (over the next couple of months) of getting a new receiver in the main system for the overhead channels I had put in about a year and a half back and I'll be doing 11.1. The audio systems are improved since you have heard them (mostly new interconnects I've made and tweaking of settings on the music server and sound treatments).  I'm probably going to do one other thing as well soon.

Wouldn't covering the entire exterior have been more effective?  I would have used an EFIS product (rigid insulation covered by expanded metal (fencing) and stucco).

What exterior treatment do you have in mind?

drive it or stow was 6.00 per foot.nice product, but , out of my budget.$5500.
And yes , doing the outside would have sealed the whole thing up.

ps they coat the block with a CEMENTUS FINISH.
a thin coat to level the walls , then a slip finish like stucco.
its used all over florida.
