Removing cloth on VR-3
« on: 19 Jul 2016, 06:51 pm »
Hello,
I have a pair of VR-3s where the right one have started distorting (buzzing) in the bass. The sound appears from around the woofer but is a higher frequency than the woofer would play. It stops if i push down on the cloth an inch or so above the woofer.
It does not look like the suspension is bad when I shine a light through and I have not got many ideas what it could be.

My thought is that I need to remove the sock to see what's up.

How do I go about this? Remove it from the top or bottom?

 Regards,
 Erik

Can't help you.  I've owned my VR-4s for 20 years and have never attempted to remove, or even move, the sock.  Have no idea of how to do that.  Only times I've ever seen my drivers is when I shine a flashlight through the sock.

VR-3s? Either but if you're afraid you might knick the top cap, turn them over and do it from the bottom ;)

Thanks for your replys.

I sent a mail to Albert Von Schweikert and got some clues as to what it could be, but when I pulled the cloth down the noise subsided. I wonder if it could be that the sock has become stretched a bit so it vibrates against the wood when I'm nearing high volume?

Try stretching the cloth tight and see if it goes away

Hello,
The problem seems to have ceased when the cloth was pulled away and put back. We'll see if it returns.

Excellent - if only everything worked like that!
