Small Thump when powering off!
« on: 15 Dec 2010, 05:40 am »
Hello. I have a question for James here or anyone that have this integrated amplifier. I have a B60-R  (wonderful integrated amp by the way). When I turn it off I can hear a "small" thump sound coming from speakers, I know it must be from power supply (caps discharging) but, since this amp has a relay. wouldn't it eliminate the thump?. When I turn it on is fine. The thump is really soft and quiet ( but I can hear it). is this normal in this integrated amps?. Thank you.

This is just to show all proud Bryston owners here that Beside quality Bryston has the best support! I just got an e-mail from Mike at Bryston for my question about a really small thump after powering off. Now I feel much better!!!. :thumb:
This is the answer back:

The B60 doesn't actually have a relay in the output circuit; the power amp
mute relay essentially turns off the bias and signal to the amp, but doesn't
interrupt the speaker connection at all.  For this reason, a small thump is
common as the caps discharge.  Unless it is loud enough to be bothersome, I
wouldn't consider it to be abnormal.

Thanks,

Mike
