Southern Calif. turntable question
« on: 28 Oct 2006, 10:02 pm »
Does anyone know of a reputable turntable mod specialist in So Cal, preferably in Orange County or LA?
i recently acquired an NAD 533 table and am looking to get some basic mods done to it (output jacks, IEC terminal) as well as to have the cartridge (Grado Platinum) properly installed. I'd like to avoid shipping it as I no longer have the original box. I'm also open to suggestions re other tweaks, i.e. replacing the platter. This is my re-entry into the world of vinyl, and as I own 2000+ LPs, it is long overdue.
Thanks in advance for any help.

The best person I know would be Brian or his dad at Brooks Berdan Ltd up in Monrovia.  www.brooksberdanltd.com  They are and have always been great to deal with and are turntable specialists.    There are other shops that cater and also deal with Vinyl in San Diego as well as some in LA, but Brooks seem to be the most experienced.

Will the Grado cartridge work in that table?  Grados have a reputation for humming in Rega tables and isn't the NAD a clone of the Rega Planar 2?

Glen is right.  Brooks is the turntable man in LA/OC.

No hum whatsoever. Thanks for the recommendation - I'll check out Brooks Berdan.
