can anyone help me unlock my iPod mini?
« on: 8 Sep 2008, 01:34 am »
Today when I turned my iPod on, it had a lock sign in the
display and none of the buttons function anymore.  I don't
remember giving it a password and my daughter says this
isn't a cruel joke on her part.

I have tried resetting it with no luck and have also tried restoring
the software with no luck.

Are there any other tricks?  Seems like I'm locked out of my iPod.

thanks!

There's a switch on the top that disables all the buttons.  Perhaps you flipped this inadvertently?

Nope, forgot to mention that....

That was the first thing I checked.  Thanks!

Try this:

To have total control over what's on your iPod (and release the "lock"), switch it to manually update.

Do this in iTunes with your iPod connected:

Edit -> Preferences -> iPod tab -> Manually manage songs and playlists

If you haven't gotten it up and running again, and if you have an Apple Store nearby, I'd suggest making an appointment and bringing it in. It won't cost anything to fix, assuming its something they can take care of right there (if it requires replacement and is out of warranty, its another story).
