DDA-100
« on: 26 Aug 2012, 08:58 pm »
Did I read the specs correctly for the DDA-100? It uses adaptive mode USB, rather than  asynchronous?

How is source selection done? It doesn't require using the remote, does it?

From the NuForce DDA-100 webpage:

"An on-chip clock reference signal for synchronizing incoming digital audio data. Data re-clocking results in ultra low jitter performance."

The target market for DDA-100 means that the USB must run without any driver, hence we use adaptive mode.  Also, since the data gets to digitally sample-converted to PWM signal at 3Gbps, we deem the audio impact from the jitters minimal.

Input selections can be done by pushing the knob momentarily.

Please explain what your target market is for the DDA-100. It sounds as though you have some clear ideas for how it might be used.

I'm waiting for NuForce to offer a travel bag sized for individual compartments for the DDA-100 and Amphion monitors, for those trips that audiophiles must endure away from their big rigs.  Just add 4 cables and a laptop.  Isn't that one of the worst parts about travel?

Obviously a nice piece for a small room (bedroom/den/office) too.

I just hyped to finally get an affordable taste of "big boy" NuForce (maybe a third target market).

Still looking for an explanation of this statement. Maybe I'm not the target market.

Asynchronous USB requires installing drivers, so it would not be plug-and-play, for the average customer they don't necessary appreciate installing a piece of software just to use a piece of audio hardware.

This is for PC computers, not Mac computers.

I wonder why NuForce decided to stop resolution support at 176.4 instead on 192 via S/PDIF?

'Target' market.

I guess they plan on selling these at Best Buy. (?)

I have no problem being part of the mass market.  The more they sell, the lower the prices can be set.  And I have no interest in withholding the "good stuff" with "the masses".

With the advent of various music servers this product (small/high quality/adequate power) fits perfectly into a variety of targets (desktop, dorm, 2nd/bedroom system, transportable, even main systems - depending on the individual).

Sort of an informational "heads up" snap shot, but does bring to question why SPDIF doesn't go to the more standard high definition 192k sampling rate.

Would this thing compliment a pair of Bowers and Wilkins 685s?

Your speakers are 88 dB/w/m at 8 ohms.  According to the TNT review it would be somewhat marginal in terms of drive (depending on room size and how loud you listen).  I've got an e-mail into the reviewer to ask for clarification on that and a couple of other issues from his review, so maybe we'll get a better idea.  I'm not familar with B&W speakers in terms of sound quality and how they would synergize.

Depends on how big room you have and how loud you listen.

My DDA-100 drives Amphion ion+ which has even lower sensitivity (86dB/8ohms) and in my 14 square meters room works perfect together. Very musical little combo. Even on loud levels with DDA's volume set to 80% with such ease you can't believe. No clipping, no signs of struggling whatsoever. That little Nuforce 50w machine is a monster for its money. 8)
