Just about everyone coming to the show will be in town Saturday evening. We can reserve a room at Cool River Cafe, Il Fornaio or Shanahan's Steakhouse so we can all share a group hug before a nice dinner and (many) drinks. Old friends can renew ties and new friends can put faces to screen names. Vote yes if you are interested. If we get at least 10, I say the party is on! :wine:  :banana piano:
-
Hellz yeah!
Shanahan's is the most expensive, but probably has the best food. Next is Cool River (IMO). If we do Shanahan's, then you can all experience the magic mushrooms that Chair Guy recommends ;)
-
Just voted yes.
-
Yes.
I'm in.
James
Edit: And I voted.

Haha I'm in! Love to eat ridiculously expensive and excellent food with ridiculous excellent friends!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Count me in.
Are these places within walking distance of the Marriott?
Cheers
Charlie
-
The steak house is 50 yards from the Mariott.

Make sure you bring a full wallet or empty credit card.

"Never leave home without it"
Wayne:
From what I see and the prices on the menu it is comparable to fine dining establishments in the S.F. Bay area. Been there done that many, many times.

Wow!
Those better be GOOD steaks!
Still trying to figure out if I'm going. Even cheap plane tickets are getting expensive. Have to make a decision in the next week. Enjoyed the heck out of the OC show and would like to go to this, but maybe I should just wait till the next SoCal show....

Prices seem to be WNL re: Portsmouth, NH Library steakhouse (http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=96115.msg979666#msg979666).

I'm starting to save up now!

Erin from the Shanahan's replied to say that it's unlawful in Colorado to bring your own wine to a restaurant. They have an extensive wine list but the going rate for good wine is typically high in restaurants. I would say 2 to 3 times what you pay if you are a savvy wine shopper. Most restaurants in DC and Virginia have a reasonable $20-30 corkage fee. It's not for everyday but if you have a special wine to celebrate a special occasion, it's worth the fee to "splurge" on a special bottle. For example, I plan to take a bottle of Cristal to celebrate my anniversary when we go out because that's the Champagne I used when I proposed. I can get one for around 150 but a restaurant would charge 4-500. Corkage fee is the only way to go.
Citizens of Colorado you need to rise up to overturn this injustice. Write your reps and sens to change the law. Virginia just passed a law so that you can BYOW as of July 1 this year. Are you going to be less progressive than ol' Virginia? :wine:
P.S. There are some "bargains" in the wine list. We had a couple of decent bottles last year at reasonable prices last year. I am sure we will find some this year too.

Dang, down here in Texas I can feed my whole family steaks, brisket, ribs, etc. (all smoked or grilled) for what it will cost me to eat up there.

If you do it on your own grill, you can feed the neighbors as well. The steaks are about 30% high, but ten bucks for a helping of mashed potatoes? :o
-
True Danny, and as a Texas boy (now in CO), I can state with certainty that the brisket, bbq, and general meat prep cannot compare to Texas, no matter how much you spend. The exception is high end steaks - CO has a few really good places for that, but for anything else, it's mediocre, at best ;)
-
I'm in, vote for Shanahans as well, never a big fan of Cool River.
-
Hey there guys!! All we need is three more to join us for a Saturday night get together over a fine dinner at Shanahans. Put yourself on the list of attendees. Gonna be a blast!!! We can all share our joy's and disappointments in our audio adventures. I've a ton of them. Some are quite unbelievable!! A few of them worked out to be some of the best audio gear I've bought. HEY!!! Do it!! Get your name on the attendees list!!
Cheers

I need to finalize grandson time while I'm in Denver and then I'll know for sure.

Probably not this year. He is just turning two. Next year we will get him indoctrinated.

Well my Dear!!!
We can hardly wait until all of us can introduce him to the wonderful world of audio. Not just what we have in our homes but the real world live concerts by performers we enjoy listening to. Nothing comes close to a live performance. You can bet your sweet bippy on that!!
Cheers
Charlie
P.S.
Hope to see you at the RMAF.
-
OK, I've booked a room and made air reservations. I'm always up for a good steak (I eat them way too often though ). Would love to hook up with AC members - haven't been as active here as a few other places, but it's always nice to meet new audio friends.
-
I'm in for the Sat. night steak dinner. I don't know if reservations have been made. Who would do that? We could meet in the Marriott bar area and get together there. Hope to catch up with all of you Audioholics.
Cheers
Charlie

I will make the reservation at Shanahans for 7 o'clock. You can go straight to the restaurant or meet up with me at the Marriott bar at 6:00-6:30 for an apéritif before walking over.

I made the reservation for 15 people at Shanahan's steakhouse. (http://shanahanssteakhouse.com/) 7 PM. I am sure we can add or subtract a few as needed.
I am looking forward to seeing y'all in person. :thumb:
-
Didn't see this the other day but hopefully I'm included in the count, very much plan on being there.

Sure thing, Rich.
-
I just received the 41 page wine list from Shanahan's. I will look it over and select a few candidates with the best QPR for our enjoyment. :wine:
P.S. I may even have them decant ahead of time (as some would need the aeration) if we agree on a few bottles.
-
Boy, I'd like to be there and see some of you I never have and see some of you again that I have...but travel and business getting in the way of fun a bit too much these days.
Enjoy :thumb: John
(btw, the mushrooms are Shanahan's are reported very good )
-
Rim, thanks for keeping good track. :)
As for wine, don't include me in that, I don't care for it and wine doesn't care for me. Near instantaneous and brutal headache if I drink wine. Not good.

Is this sulfite related? Do you have the same issue drinking wines overseas?

Not certain but I've learned over the years to just stay away. I don't even attempt it, have not for years.
Also I can't make the dinner, I was reminded over the weekend of a previous commitment. I did of course email Rim since he's coordinating this. :(
-
We're getting closer.
I voted early, and I'm still on.
Woodsyi- It will be good to meet you since you were out of the area (or the country)
during Capital Audiofest.
Mike- The wine is no great friend of mine either. Sometimes it just gives me a gut
affliction.
Rich- I'll be looking for you in your CAF T-shirt
Charlie C.- looking forward as well.
And everyone else.
James
-
Rim, hope it's not too late can you put me down for one more?

Sure,
I reserved for 15 and we are at 12. I will do a head count next week to get a final number.

James:
I for one am really looking forward to meeting you and my fellow audioholics at the RMAF. Hey!! Only a couple of weeks more and then all of us will have a HECTIC weekend. I don't know how we can beat that!!
Cheers

Rim,
unfortunately I won't be able to join you this year. As it turns out, Wednesday and Saturday nights are the only nights my grandson and his family are available for dinner. I arrive in Denver late Wedensday afternoon and will be helping to set up the show on Thursday. I look forward to seeing everyone in 4 or 5 days. :thumb:
Laura
-
Hey Rim, got room for 2 more? I could probably swing a pricey steak if I pack sandwiches for the drive there  I'll have to ask my buddy who's driving with me though if he's ok with it, but I imagine he will be.

You and your guest are welcome to join us. I have always said you are a better company in person than on line. 8)

Sorry you can't make it. I am sure I will see you Friday evening at the Marriott bar. I land around 3. I should be there in time for the happy hour.

This is for all of you who are coming to the Banquet at Shanahans.
The reservation is for 7 PM. You can go straight to the restaurant or meet me at the Marriott bar by 6:30 to walk over together.
If you want my cell number just in case you are late or something, PM me with your number and I will text you from my phone.
See y'all in a few days. :thumb:

Darn, can't make it due to other obligations :( Am sure it is going to be A LOT of fun too.

Cashed in my miles! RMAF here I come!

Yay!!! It worked. ^that is my daughter Avi. :)
This should allow me to basically do live coverage. :thumb:
-
Cute little girl. Do we need to reserve a high chair for her? 8)
-
I buy airline tickets every year for RMAF. She is leaving tonight with both girls. :thumb:
-
Good looking kid there, Jason. She must have gotten her good looks from your wife. :P
There's not a dress code for Shanahan's is there? Hope I can ware jeans or shorts? Looks to be in the 70s - 80s. I'm guessing it will pretty warm in the rooms???
-
Thanks Avi is a sweetheart. Always happy.
Dress code there appears to be cowboy hats and shit kickers. :P
-
Always happy...a good thing for sure.
sweet! I'll bring my bib.

This is the shot that the waiter took of our table. A second shot is too blurred.
We were truly in the spirit(s). A great dinner with great folks and a pretty steep check.
I had the Bison Rib Eye with broccoli (with some of Scott's sauteed Mushrooms) preceded by an awesome Beet salad.
Serious eats. I wouldn't have missed it and it was great meeting all of you, from Audio Circle and others.
James
-
Great dinner! You can see my left eye behind Charlie's nose. I was surprised to get a good steak. Well worth the effort!
Bob
-
Yeah well Charlie wasn't as interested in the picture as he was of his food. Obviously!!! :o  :)
-
That pic was taken before Rim ripped off his shirt and started dancing on the table, as you can see he's holding up what appears to be his 5th-6th glass of wine.
-
Then we went back to Lou's room and started drinking tequila. That's when the fun REALLY started!!!!!!
-
I laid off the tequila. Me and tequila don't go well together stemming from a nasty experience way back when I was in search of the worm in bottles.
We drank 3 Magnum bottles of 1999 ICON Syrah. It was tasty with my steak. It looked like everyone enjoyed it too. I had a great time and it wasn't because I was doing all the drinking. Everyone got about the same which comes to about half a normal (750 ml) bottle per person in 2 hours. :wine: I am just repudiation false claims. :?
It was funny when Klaus came by just to see me dancing (NOT!) on the table.
-
Nice, camera caught me in mid-chew
Thanks for having us for dinner, it was a nice time. And thanks for giving my speaks a listen afterward.
