Super Tower/R available

So I've been poking around looking for a deal on some 626 or RM30's as I "need" to finally try some VMPS in my room (been a fan since the 80's but have remained with my Carver Plat's and ALIII's all this time) and found these locally. http://picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/19289216

Going to give a look/listen. Original owner with supposedly no indication of foam rot. Fair price would be?????

Going by some older posts I've found, I'm assuming replacement drivers are available.

I know they are no rm30 but these were the model that I left behind when I walked out with the Plats. Would be cool to put them in another room if the price is right and I don't have to put any money in them for a few years.

Those look to be an original pair from the late 1980's.   It is unlikely the PR or either woofer is working properly, and same is likely true of the mids and ribbon.  The domes are likely suspect as well.  A full rebuild will run about $950 for parts, so decide for yourself.

Let me "add" the picture of said Super Towers

As I have posted on occasion, these are what I listened to the first time at Christopher Hansen's in Beverly Hills and they bested the Wilson Watt Puppies, and even the HUGE MegaBuck Goldmunds he kept pushing.

They certainly are VMPS Collectors Items and would be marvelous with some Classic Gear to go with them. An old AR TT and Maybe some Vintage Marantz, Macintosh, Crown, Hafler. . . .could be very sweet.

HOWEVER; Coming from Carver Ribbons you would not find them to be the step up the RM30s would be. (except in the BASS area)

Oh, I know there would be no comparison, however for cheap they'd be great in the basement.

Just got back from looking at them. Foam is intact all the way around. Pressing on the PR you can see the woofer move.

All drivers are working and sound pretty darn good. How can I tell if they are working "properly"?

What would be included in the "full re-build"? Return them to stock or upgrades included?

Feel free to contact me outside of the forum.

I appreciate all the feedback by the way! VMPS service/support is second to none!

Run your finger around the foam surrounds and if they do not crumble, they are OK.  Check the PR, which if original has likely sagged, as well as lost its foam.  New "big bump" PR's are $66ea.

If the speaker sounds good to you, no reason not to get and enjoy it.  Upgrades are available as desired.  The modern drivers are considerably better sounding than the old stock.
