$5000 LP on eBay. Turns out it's Peter Qvortrup of Audio Note (the high bidder's moniker, "gaku-on," might have tipped you off to that).
Peter is sort of defending his decision on Audio Asylum--he doesn't seem fazed by the going price.

I had no idea there was vinyl worth that much!

He's already bidding it up with that other guy. Making four bids in two hours isn't smart EBay practice.

I guess he can afford it tho...  :o

I hope the winner invites 200 of his closest friends over to listen to it, since it must be absolute musical rapture. (and charging them each 25 bucks at the door wouldn't be a bad idea either)  But wouldn't you know it, some drunk will probably bump the turntable and send the needle skittering over it.  Ain't that a bitch?

This is the thread in which Peter participates--seems he collects alot of vinyl and especially violin.  The LP in question is exceeded in rarity by only two others (which he mentions).  Time to check Grandma's attic! :D
