VHP-2 Balanced
« on: 28 Sep 2008, 01:08 am »
I recently ordered the VHP-2 VAC-1 and while I have been waiting for delivery I have been reading up on its use in balanced configuration.  As described here:

http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=44912.msg401886#msg401886

My current set-up is:

Mac Mini -> firewire -> M-Audio Firewire Audiophile -> HD280pro/HD650/K501

The M-Audio Dac has a set of unbalanced line outputs:

Based on the literature for the VDA-2 it would seem there is a possibility for me to tweak the M-Audio to output a balanced signal.  All I would need to do is invert phase for outputs 3 & 4 in the above picture?

I haven't opened up the M-Audio.  Wanted to check whether it was a possibility before hand.

Doable?

Ok, so I opened the M-Audio:

The seems to be enough space to do some work.  Here are my thumbnails for what I plan to do:

The simplest option would be to solder some resistors to ground as in Option A.  Or use a 1:1 line output transformer as in Option B.
