Stepping into the world of DIY speakers
« on: 27 Feb 2025, 03:33 pm »
Hi,

I just bought a pair of the GR Research Bully speakers. For the sake of affordability, I decided to build out the whole speaker and stand kits. I'm sure I could use some coaching along the way.

I took woodshop over 40 years ago in high school and was quite good at it. I also have 17 years background in electronics but that was many years ago as well.

I'm looking forward to listening to these. I have never been able to afford speakers on this level so I'm pretty excited about this project.

Thank you!

Rob

Sounds like a fun project.  I'll follow along if you post along the way.

I built a pair of NX Studio monitors a while back.  I realized I hadn't soldered anything in about 30 or 40 years, but I did alright and actually got better as I progressed.  I started with a flat pack so the wood working was minimal.  Finishing took quite a while though.  My advice:  be patient.  I worked on my project part time (evenings and weekends) with long breaks due to cold temperatures - my garage isn't heated.  So it took much longer than I had anticipated but it was worth it as my speakers are fantabulous.

Good luck.

Many here to help, I'm sure. I built my first speakers over 50 years ago from Radio Shack components. Geez, did I just write that? I'm old but remember a few things!
