Heres a laugh. In 1978 I was 16. Big fan of the Rolling Stones. They were scheduled to play near me in Chicago. I told my best friend "Weve gotta see the Stones. Theyre in their 30s now getting old and this will probably be the last time they tour" LOL was that the understatment or what! Great show. Looking back Jagger WAS "young" and hyper.

Not so funny, in 1980ish my friend and I had Led Zep tickets. J. Bonham passed. Never saw them.

Then there was Heart in 1980s. My friend Jim's FAVORITE band. As Mott the Hoopel opened Jim slumped over. Took him to Medical. He was out of it. Too much of something ,but ok. I asked if he could stay there. They said NO take him home. I gathered my other friends and went home. Never saw Heart.

The wife and I, have tickets for Thursday (tomorrow) of the 4 day CaliRoots festival..
It gets a little expensive to stay in Monterey during the Memorial Day weekend, especially when there are 45 bands in town for the festival..

So 1 day, is about all we are willing to spend this time around.
There is about 10 bands playing Thursday, but we are only trying to see 4 of them

I went to see a Wishbone Ash tribute band last week. I call it a tribute band because only one original member remains. That said, they were very good and did all of the songs on the album Argus to start with.
Next up will be a acoustic Hot Tuna concert in June. I saw the Airplane a couple times and Hot Tuna as well back in the 1970's
For those that mentioned Led Zep I was fortunate to see them 4 times. First show was their second stop on their first American tour. I knew right away they were special.

In 1965 I took my girlfriend to the Hollywood Bowl to see Joan Baez perform. Towards the end of her performance she stopped and waved someone in from the side of the stage. Some guy came out who she introduced as Bob Dylan. I had never heard of him and his singing didn't sound like any kind of "singing" I had ever heard before. I even apologized to my girlfriend for the lousy end of the Baez concert.

The link below has a footnote indicating the Bob Dylan had opened for Joan Baez at the Hollywood Bowl in 1963. I specifically recall that Bob Dylan came on towards the end of the concert so I am quite sure that it was the 1965 concert that I attended.

I've seen around 200 shows, a few that stand outs were:

Ozzy headlining in a small hockey arena, Young Canadians (Art Bergmann) opened, Motor head was second up
and insane loud, Then Ozzy. Great show and glad I got to see Randy live.

Roger Waters In The Flesh Tour 2000 at the Gorge, the tours only open air show. Early in the day while attending the
the refreshments garden an airliner flew about 1500 Ft or so overhead, I commented to the person I was with pointing to it and said
"bet that's the bands plane" the responses was "no way" Well that evening as the show was about to start
that plane came up the valley behind the stage pulling up and over the top of the stage right in sync with the opening
notes of Waters doing "In The Flesh" never seen that before or since. Was pretty cool.

Honorable mention goes to the Toxic twins having AC/DC as the opening act and man they were a killer opening act in 1978
and the Aerosmith comes out and does the worst show I have ever seen, including guitars going dead, singing wrong lyrics,
and even starting a song or 2 with different members actually play different tunes so a few aborted takes were done.

My first concert was during my freshman year at UC Berkeley in 1962...just before my first classes. Joan Baez gave a nice little concert IN THE CAFETERIA! Pretty amazing start to my college career.

Compared to the folks here, I haven't attended that many. This is the first time I've thought about the list. Mostly rock for me: 1) RUSH, Detroit, 1991, 2) Pink Floyd, Minneapolis, 1995, 3) James Brown, Atlanta, 1996, 4) U2, Chicago, 1997, 5) The Who, multiple in 2006, 6) Steely Dan, Chicago, 2019, 7) Judas Priest, multiple, 2018-2022. The tough part for me (as I get older and enjoy this hobby more), is that I notice the poor audio quality and limitations of arena/open space amplification and it really takes away from the experience. I don't know much about Pro Audio, and I don't know about you guys, but sometimes I feel like if I had access to the mixing board and some DSP equipment, I could improve the sound at my seat at the shows. Probably just wishful thinking from a neophyte.

Pro-audio speakers and amps have never been as good as they are today, the amps used today are Class AB or Class D. In the past things were poor or max sub-standard.
