Blues Radio - Athens!

Thanks for the tip. Great station. Anyone know how to get this to play using Alexa? The station is available on TuneIn radio so it should be doable if you know the secret passphrase  :D

The phrases play Blues Radio Athens and play Blues Radio Athens, Greece don't work for me. I have also tried what I think is the Station ID, play S255678, with no success.

As mentioned earlier in the thread WCPO 89.7 is excellent. One of my go to favorites is The Jazz Groove. I also like Jazz24 and the Radio Paradise stations.

Cheers,

Scott

Yes, WCPE for classical (and over the air if you are close enough to use a really good tuner). ABC Jazz (Australia) has an awesome lineup of Jazz DJ's and it's all non-commercial 24/7 with surprisingly good sound in spite of the MP3 stream format. NRK Jazz (Norway), DR P8 (Denmark), but Shonan Beach FM (Japan) 'prolly has the best quality streams IMHO, and also Radio Swiss Jazz. These are my top Jazz streaming stations primarily because of the MUSIC and non-commercial nature of the stations. They are all "bookmarked" in my Node OS so I can switch among stations quickly if needed (e.g. sometimes at the top of the hour). But when I feel like pop or rock, Radio Paradise is where I go.

I listen Soma sometimes, so found other interesting stations.

Secret agent station with an incredible consistent program:

Seems a Nasa radio, also interesting:

KCME from Colorado Springs
WFMT from Chicago
Both classical. Both remind me of when I used to live there. I even enjoy the commercials, They bring back local memories.
Now I live in the Houston area and it is a classical music desert. No local public radio even. Shameful for the 4th or 5th largest population area in the country.

My favorite old school meets new streaming service, Radio Paradise. Following is an email update copied here with permission.

As William Goldsmith often says, check it out!

Radio Paradise - Meet the team https://radioparadise.com/about/meet-the-team

Radio Paradise New channel, and more coming

Hello RP fam!

Josh from Radio Paradise here. I was brought on a couple of years ago to be the engineer/audio producer to help make Radio 2050 happen. While it was still in its incubation phase, William and Alanna and I were trying to figure out what sort of music to put behind the interviewees. After trying several ‘stock’ libraries out there, I took it upon myself to create some ambient backgrounds on my (fairly massive) eurorack modular synth system. This was an ‘a-ha’ moment for all of us, as it brought a very unique sound to the show which we believed truly set it apart from other things out there.

Fast forward a year, and we’re in a meeting one day and Alanna suggests we create a focus/study channel of all of this ambient material, as that’s exactly what she’d been using it for in the office. William had the genius idea of naming it ‘Serenity’, as we were hoping that would be the mood it would create for those utilizing it. We did a soft launch about a month ago, and have heard from so many of you how much you love utilizing it for sleep, meditation, yoga, work, and generally just as a place of peace in a noisy world.

So may I humbly present to you our latest channel, Serenity! We decided to create a bit of a whimsical storyline behind it all, and thus was born the moniker ‘Rule 42’…an ode to my love of both Lewis Carroll and Douglas Adams. Every track is named after a celestial body, and we’ve included a slideshow for you that consists of even more gorgeous space scenes. We surely hope that it helps you find a little inner peace and inspiration!

In other news, I also helped William do a nice refresh of the Global Mix recently, and we’d love for you to check it out! I’m also hard at work on a new jazz channel we’ll be launching in the new year, and rumor has it there’s an Americana station in the works as well! Big things are coming up for RP’s 25th anniversary next year!

Lastly, thank you so much for your continued support! It allows us to stay in the creative flow, and give back what we believe to be the best human curated listening experience this side of the Milky Way!

With love,

Joshua Cunningham

+1 Big Time on Radio Paradise.  I discovered them when I noticed their FLAC streams in the LUMIN app.  While I've most often listened to the Global and Main mixes, I'm very excited about the new Jazz channel.

+1 also on the Soma channels!

One station that I listen to a lot is WWOZ out of New Orleans.  If they could get the sound quality up, I'd definitely listen to them a lot more...

Jeff,

Are you listening to WWOZ on this stream: http://wwoz-sc.streamguys.com/wwoz-hi.mp3. It appears to be the highest rate stream you can get for it.

These posts without the radio station links are frustrating.

Jeff,

Are you listening to WWOZ on this stream: http://wwoz-sc.streamguys.com/wwoz-hi.mp3. It appears to be the highest rate stream you can get for it.

Good question.  I usually listen to it on the main rig (LUMIN T2 via TuneIn in the LUMIN app).  I haven't been able to find out how to increase the sound quality. The FLAC internet radio stations in the LUMIN app sound fantastic. I am limited to what my LUMIN player is being fed, and with WWOZ it seems that mp3 is the best that I'm going to get.

On my Mac, I also can't do much because I have an old one (pre-M1 chip). When I type in the address that you provided, all I get is the gray screen and the one tiny bar that says "Live broadcast".

I just downloaded the WWOZ app to my phone and there's no place to even check what the stream quality is, let alone change it.

Too bad, because it's one of my favorite stations - good enough that I'll keep listening even with the sub-par sonics. (Just not for as long at a time, and sadly not nearly as often.)

I'm all ears if you can tell me how to find or change the sound output quality in the WWOZ app or TuneIn app on the (pre- M1 chip) Mac, iPhone 15, or LUMIN App.  Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Jeff,

On the WWOZ iOS app when you are on the Streaming Live screen you should see a small icon to the left of the big Stop Button. If you click on it you should get three choices. Check the WWOZ 90.7 FM Hi MP3 and you should be streaming the highest quality version available.

From a browser this link is the highest quality stream available. Note it says hi in the URL. It should not matter what browser or operating system is in use.
