The greatest new rock band of the 2000's

If you like classic rock and want to hear something new, this is the only place to be. Give either album a few spins and you will be completely hooked. I've been listening to them a few years now, I have an enormous collection, and I can say without a doubt they are currently my favorite band and every song gets me raising the air guitar.

Andrew Stockdale is god. He was born in the wrong decade. His band would have stood toe to toe with the greatest. Both albums positively rip.

A lot of people say they are merely derivative. I used to think the same thing until I gave them a real honest listen. They are an absolutely spectacular band, their albums are perfect, Andrew Stockdale plays a mean guitar and is a hell of a songwriter, and I simply cannot wait for a new album and a tour.

The lead singer sounds like a knock off of an early Robert Plant- which is a pretty darn good sound. But if this is a "greatest new rock band of the 2000's" I'll just happily keep listening to my jazz and classical. Oh well, you know what they say about opinions and assholes...

Hey I like jazz and classical too, I've got beethoven playing right now as I write a paper. I just thought I'd introduce this band to the board for those who perhaps might be interested. If you liked either song, definitely pick up one of their albums.

If you buy Cosmic Egg do not miss out on the deluxe version, it's basically a double album with many songs not on the standard.

Very talented, lots of lyrical attitude, tremendous songwriting and playing. I love love love this band.

Putz !! Another teenager band, playing the same hardcore, punk, heavy metal style, the song looks the same of others bands, ever screaming.
At least they play more in tube than the last one, the MTV audience will love it as always.

Kings of Leon are my favorite new rock group of the 2000's. Always looking for good new rock but the pickings seem slim.

lol, this is far far from heavy metal. You show your age

It is far more akin to classic 70's rock music if anything, he's a singer, not a screamer. And I would not class them as a teenager pop band. If you are a fan of rock music at all (somehow I doubt this

) then I highly suggest you give them a listen.

They're out there - I actually had trouble picking a single band so I picked four I really like :
a) The National
b) The Hold Steady
c) TV On The Radio
d) Arcade Fire

I know Within Temptation was formed in 1996, but they did not hit their stride untill 2000.
The best female Gothic Rock lead vocal (Sharon Den Adel) I have ever heard. All other Gothic Rock bands have to play catch up.

If you like the sound of the Eagles or The Band a really good post 2000 group from Austin is the Band of Heathens.

I have heard them live on several occassions and have most of their albums

Thanks for your balanced post, I appreciate it. I confirm the calendar say I over 50 already.

These new bands of 90/2000 years looks all the same for me, the ''music'' they made run in a train track, rarely there is a keyboard, even a cheap digital one, the sound are always agressive, with huge mass of guitars to hide the lack of instrumental virtuosity.
The ''musicians'' looks 24 y/o and the audience seems to be around 12-18 y/o.
I sadly confess that in my country the overall situation is even worse.

I like much rock, mainly ProgRock as PinkFloyd, Yes, Procol Harum, VdGG, Jarre, Vangelis, Faust, Can, Agitation Free, Eno, Cluster/Kluster/Harmonia, Michael Rother etc... but also Cream, DireStraits, J.J.Cale etc,,, and much Jazz and Classical.

I must say, after I know Steve Roach, Iam in love with Ambient Music, which I see as the successor of the ProgRock music.

love prog rock too. Getting into Pink Floyd. I have Piper at the Gates of Dawn (interesting) and The Wall (very good). Neither one is particularly getting me going. Can you suggest a better an album I might try next?

PS WM uses a keyboard, you would have noticed it in their video. Yes, they are pretty aggressive, but in a Led Zeppellin, swaggering sort of way, not the screaming crap that I think you and I both hate. THe songs are really good, I wouldn't let you down

Also, I'm pretty excited for a friend of mine. He's in an up and coming prog-blues-funk band and John Singleton had selected them to possibly fly to LA and record the soundtrack for his new movie.

I like Jesse Malin, www.jessemalin.com. Probably about 8 years back, I saw him on Last Call with Carson Daily and then bought his album and I've seen him many times. Puts on a great show too.

just pre bought Whitesnakes new cd set.2 cd's with a dvd....there are NO REPLACEMENTS for Creed,Bruce Springsteen,Eric Clapton,the mighty and i mean mighty Pink Floyd ---later David G on his own......Wolfmother needs to grow yet.....they are cool to be sure....

( our generation was blessed by big talent,it seems thin these days )

I like all albums from Piper til the Final Cut, after Final Cut PF music are just PopRock like Genesis.
But more on the easy side, maybe Pop there is this David Gilmour first solo album, I like a bit, it is so-so,
