Memorial weekend sale...

This sale is ridiculously good.

I am going to run a special on the Classic X-LS kits for $99 a kit through the 3rd of June.

$99 for everything pictured.

These little speakers won awards out the wazoo when they were released. I guarantee you that you can find a better sounding loudspeaker kit for this low of a price.

It is time to build a pair for for fun, for a friend, or for a son or daughter. Introduce a youngster to music that is not played through ear buds.

That's a crazy price!!! The inductors alone would be close to $75 at Madsound or Parts Express.

The Classic X-LS parts kit as well as all the other AV123 parts kits that Danny is presently offering perform extremely well. They sound great in stock form, but if you really want to take the performance up to a higher level, just swap out the stock crossover mylar capacitors with Sonicaps and install No-Rez on the cabinet interior walls. With the upgrades, the performance level is not quite as detailed as the  GR Research N series kits, but is very close, especially with the Encore series Peerless India tweeter. I don't know of any other speaker kits presently available anywhere that offer as much performance for the buck as these. A truely fantastic bargin in audio.

Hmmm.  I wonder if Ruben has any more X-LS flat packs?

Hey Ron, Those little Yellow caps are actually poly caps.

Hey Scott, If you buy those inductors in Erse XQ's that I stock they are only $53.  :D  And the woofers are sold for $60 a pair: http://gr-research.com/m130woofer-1.aspx

You can't even come close to buying these parts for what I am selling these kits for.

Maybe I'm uneducated (stupid) with regards to differences but I'm compelled to
ask what is the difference between this speaker and the X-LS Encore?
Is the Encore worth the extra $50?
That's one crazy price you've got on those speakers, but I was really
curious about the difference.

The X-LS Encore uses this top level dome tweeter: http://gr-research.com/gr-t3tweeter-1.aspx

It also has Sonicap Gen.2 by-pass caps in the tweeter circuit.

And yes, it does take everything up a couple of notches across the board.

Danny's idea of turning folks on to music with these speakers is a very good one.   I have gotten pairs of the classic X-LS's to both my nephews and their friends over the years.  They could not believe how much better music could sound!  One friend of theirs that has them is now a musician!

These have been one of the best sounding mini-monitors I have heard.  This price is incredible for what you are getting!

Another idea might be a Classic X-LS tour.  PE boxes and NoRez might give some folks ideas for cabinets.

I just ordered a kit and sheet of No Rez from Danny.  This will be my first speaker build, hopefully not my last.  Hal, if you hear anything from Ruben on availability of his flat pack please post something.  It will save me some time.

Happy Memorial Day fellow AC members.

I recently finished building a pair of X-LS Encores using the 0.50 cu-ft cabinets from Parts Express with a piano black finish. Really well built as well as very nice looking cabinets for the money. Also, I did the performance upgrades by replacing the stock crossover poly capacitors with Sonicaps and lining the cabinet interior walls with No-Rez. I built these mainly to see just how good the X-LS Encores really are. Pleased to report that the performance and sound quality of these speakers is amazingly good. In my opinion they sound and perform as well as or better than a lot of commercial speaker sysytems that sell for 3 or 4 times as much. At the price Danny is selling these kits for, they are an absolute steal.

Presently have the X-LS Encores I just built up for sale so that I can build a pair of X-CS Encore MTM's next just for the fun of it to see how well they perform.

NB,

Yes. Those are the ones. Really nice cabinets for the money and shipping is free too. Also, they are packed really well which reduces the chance of them being damaged during shipment.

NB,
Last time I built speakers I used the PE cabinets.  Had Ruben make the front baffles for them.

I had spotted that he made some flat packs awhile back for donations.  I was not sure if any were left.

This was just thinking out loud, as I still have two pairs of Classic X-LS here.  They are the piano gloss rosewood AV123 versions with the matching X-CS for the HT setup.   They are great speakers.

Hal and Ron,

Thanks for the additional information.  I also saw the flat packs post a while back, but I am not sure they are still available. The PE cabinets with some mods look practical and inexpensive. I will think about upgrading the crossover caps.  What size and gen of Sonicaps do you recommend?

I modded my Sophia Baby with Sonicaps bypass caps - what an improvement.

One pair of X-LS have the Sonicaps replacing the stock value poly's with 0.1uF platinum bypass on the tweeter cap.  I put in Mills resistors and alpha foil inductors as well.  This is basically the Skiing Ninja Ninja Master ugrade.

One pair of X-LS and the X-CS has stock XO's.

The set of X-LS my nephews have include the Sonicaps Gen1 and Mills resistors replacing the stock parts.   Those have the Gen2 Sonicaps as bypass for the tweeter.

NB,

Suggest that you give Danny a call. He can tell you which Sonicap to use and should have them in stock too.
