The Sweet 807 is one of Dennis' older amps.  If he were building one today he may make different design decisions.

If possible variable NFB would be useful to adapt the amp to the speaker.

............ and his newer amps are much more flexible.  :thumb:

I bought the 807 4 years ago.  :o

The evolution on these has been pretty rapid.  I bought a KT88HO a year ago and it has had two major changes since then; a change from a 6dj8 driver to 6sn7 and the more recent change to the IIPS.

I think some of this is an artifact of Dennis' business model.  He is as much entertaining himself as making a profit.  This is a retirement business for him.

Wow beautiful amp, what are your impressions on the sound quality?

It sounds open, detailed, vocals are superb, bass is solid for a tube amp.  It changes based upon which tubes I have in it.  With 6V6 and 6P3S-e, it is a bit more midrange forward/detailed.  With a 6SL7 driver tube, even more so.  With KT120 it is more neutral, with deeper, tighter bass.  With EL34 it is more classic tube, a little less high end detail, a little fuzzier on deep bass, very smooth midrange.  It can be a bit different with different 6SN7 driver tubes.   So you can tailor the sound to your preferences, your speakers, and your room.  Not in huge swings, in subtle but noticeable ways.

I find that when I hit on certain tube combinations, in my room and setup, it can be mesmerizing.  A joyous listening experience.

I'd like to try KT150s in it.  I have several different types of power tubes, but none of them.   The KT120 is one of my favorite tubes in it.

Dana, Thanks for this report I appreciated.
That 20W OPTs are a peace of mind, it was a wise choice.

Please Note George I just was told variable NFB not possible in this case, since the 807 need NFB due its electrical characteristics.

I always thought the 807 was an older version of a KT-66 or 6L6 with a top cap for High Voltage. I owned an amp designed for 807s once, and also used 807s in an Elekit TU-879 amp that was designed for EL34/6L6/KT-88, etc. (with adapters).
I never read anything about any specific NFB requirement for the 807 tube.

807 is a ''new'' version from the 6L6 and the 1625 is a 12V version from the 807. The 807W was the WWII military version, very robust yet avaliable at low prices, a bargain.
What are your impressions on the 807 sound?

The 807/1625 is one of my very favorite tubes for audio.  They are cheap, stout, reliable, and they sound great.

They were developed for this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN/ARC-5

Another under the radar tube that can make a good audio tube is the 6146B/6883B.  As ling as you pay attention to the screen voltage, you can get 100 watts out of a pair of them.  :o

I thought they sounded better than the EH 6L6s I compared them to in the little SE kit amp. The 807s I have are NOS (and I believe they were really NOS) RCAs, RCA gray glass, and 807W (the stout little military version).
I have a pair of Quicksilver monos that use 4 each per channel EL34/KT88 etc., and it seemed such a shame to have 8 of those beautiful 807s in a box in the closet, so I ordered adapters so I can use the 807s in the Quickies. I'm excited to see how they sound.

That is a Chinese shop, in China the prices are this low in all brands.
There is no freight included, there is no import custom tax and the huge profit margin of the American dealer.
