I recently asked Jason if I could try out the Torsion speaker cables. I had read about the jumpers in another thread, but missed the speaker cable tour a while back. The Torsion speaker cables were the only part of my signal cabling that did not have Hapa cable in place. I had previously purchased the silver Aero Ag USB cable, and then later added two sets of the Aero RCA copper cables connecting DAC to preamp and amp. So I had all the wires carrying lower signal strength audio, the most critical segments in my mind (albeit one a digital cable), upgraded.
And the sound without the Hapa speaker cables was fantastic – startling clarity, full but nuanced bass, tonal balance, musicality, and more.
So, I asked myself: how much difference could a set of speaker cables make? I already had very good speaker cables – high purity copper with Teflon. But within a day or two after listening to the loaner Torsion copper speaker cables I felt like I was listening to a new system. I could not believe how the “full loom” really delivered significantly better sound. There was something special about the full loom of Hapa – it was definitely more than the sum of the parts. All the improvements in sound described above intensified. It was almost as if my old speaker cables were blocking complete realization of the improvements wrought by the upstream Hapa cables.
The Torsion speaker cables are very special, and are really valuable in realizing the complete expression of Hapa cable clarity and musicality. It you can try them, especially with upstream Hapa cabling in place, I suspect you will be shocked – in a really good way. The cables were a bit of a reach for me, but once I heard them I could not go back. Of course, your mileage could vary, but I cannot imagine an experiment with greater upside potential. Honestly, I did not expect this startling an outcome, and thought I would share. I had read several mentions of a Hapa full loom in this industry circle, but had not been moved to check them out until the Torsion jumper comments stuck in my head. What a mistake!
A mistake now happily corrected!
