Glad I could help Robin. It's always great to expand a fellows music horizons.

Roy, I though the first track was cool.....for a while....Then I had to remove it from the harddrive. Having that "song" mixed in a random play jazz mix, wasn't working for me.

Bob

I like this album too. The opening cut Brother Trying to Catch a Cab (on the Eastside) Blues cracks me up. :icon_lol: Actually I like Bradford's style more than that of his more famous brother, Wynton .

-Roy

I too ended up picking it up. Branford and BB King toegther was a must-have album which I had missed. Thanks Bob.  :thumb:

Cheers,
Robin

I dug into one of the B&W Society of Sound downloads the other night, "Black and White Sessions" from Portico Quartet.

I'll describe this as Trance Chamber Jazz, if you can imagine.

Drums, bass, sax and hang. Yes, hang. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hang_drum

Hard to describe, but I really enjoyed it!

I have that cd too, plus the K2HD remaster which is great sonically but reinforces at least IMHO that the performance is good not very good or great.

Similar in style but a better performance is IMHO

Monterey Concerts - Cal Tjader

First disk is great sonically just about a demo disk...
Sadly the 2nd is a mess sonically, performances are fine but makes me think the roadies tied one on after the first session and were not ready for primetime the next day.  A shame!!!!

Thanks, I'll check out the Monterey Concerts you recommend.  One of the reasons I have always liked Jazz at the Pawnshop is the extraneous sounds of the locale.  It always puts me right there and the music is light and lively.

GREEN'S BLUES....Benny Green

Benny Green shows up almost every year at our small town jazz festival where he plays with a variety of players. He's probably the most technically proficient jazz piano player I've ever seen in person. Hey, what can you expect from someone who was supposed to be Oscar Peterson's  protégé? He also plays with a lot of fire and imagination.
