So did you hear them with the Cicable external crossovers......

Expensive but nice.  When I had them in for review they were
tough to send back.  Either way that Stirling LS3/5a is one of
my all time favorites!

You know, I am not sure. Acoustic sounds had them playing in a  large room at RMAF 2006.  It's possible.  I heard them later in the UK in a typically small flat and was able to compare them-without external drivers- with a pair of Quad '57s.  I think it was that comparison that really floored me.  I have since been shown how to construct DIY external cross-overs for much less.  The directions and source are on the Yahoo LS3/5A board.  These speakers work marvelously in my acoustically awful loft room with both Quicksilver minis and Blue Circle SBM (SS) monoblocks.  For laughs I set my system up in my tiny Danish bathroom (3-4m^2) and they played wonderfully well even in those close confines (for which they were designed).  You can't even get a pair of Wilson Watt Pupies into a can this size, let alone have them sound good.
