AC wish list components
« on: 1 Sep 2009, 04:58 pm »
Hi guys

If you have components which are good candidates for AC tour or group buy, please list it in this thread.

For me:

1. Dayens Ampinio integrated
2. New improved MiniWatt integrated
3. Grand Fidelity new tube DAC/preamp/head-amp

As well as few full range drivers for DIY project which I will post about late.

What gear is on your mind?

Regards

Does that count?  :peek:

Can you provide link to the site?
And please make sure your proposal fits in this Circle and doesn't interfere with others.

Thanks

Which site?
You mean the one here in the Lab that refers to which components comprise a Felix?

I am not familiar with Felix project. (I am sure there are others)
If it is in the lab circle, maybe it should stay there.
Please contact JoshK on that matter.

Here's one I'd be interested in - "KingRex T20U". It's a USB DAC and amp (with volume) all in one:

http://coemaudio.com.au/Amplifiers/Integrated-Amplifiers/151/

BTW you generally figure that prices in AU are 1.5x (or more) the price in the US.

Is this one available in the US? (Looks like the manufacturer is in Taiwan.) If not, Mariusz, perhaps I can get one, play with it, and then send it to you to compare to your stable? I will want it back tho :D

I have found one place which sells it in Canada and also ships from US border town to avoid duties for US customers. http://www.obadimports.com/index.html
Looking through their website shows that they should be getting them pretty soon.(week or two)
I will try to contact them in a week or so to check on availability.

I have send few emails as well to manufacturers which make some interesting and inexpensive components. We will see if any of those want to participate in AC tour.

Will see. First, I want to get some feedback about interesting components, create a list and take it from there.

Another fun piece is from Ming Da MC-84CII.
However this would have to be a group buy to lower shipping and all.
My only issue is with its reputation which was well......not as solid as we would liked it to be.
Pacific Valve sells it for around $700 and warranty. Maybe they could lower the price on larger quantity or would be interested in AC review/tour?

Anyway, here are some pics and spects:

After initial talk, looks like we might be fortunate enough to organize AudioCircle Tour for
Dayens Ampino integrated amplifier. There is also possibility of group buy in the future.
When details are worked out, I will start separate thread concerning AC Tour. Dejan Dobrin also mentioned other products which he proudly manufactures. Those include: cables and speakers.
If you thing that it's a good idea, let me know. Or you might have other products in mind which I could try include in future tours or group buys?

Stay tune for Alpino amp tour information.

Here is a 6moon review of this product: http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/dayens/ampino.html

I'm located in Canada and I'd love to hear the Dayens Ampino.  Maybe we could have a separate tour for Canadians so as to avoid customs border crossing issues?

IMO the KingRex T20U is an exceptional amp, especially with the associated PSU.  Audio-Magus has re-opened under same ownership as Obad Imports.  They are offering 20% off the KR (and everything else) until 9/15 I believe.

I will say, however, that I find the Virtue Audio ONE, their  base model, to be a notch or two better than the KR T20U.  But you must BYO DAC with the ONE if you want to do computer audio via USB.

Looks like the KingRex DAC is about half the price of the T20U. Here's a comparison of some cheap USB DACs:

http://www.tnt-audio.com/sorgenti/usb_dac_shootout_e.html

One thing I notice is that a lot of these cheap DACs and amps have optional upgrade power supplies. This seems like an easy (and cheap!) DIY option.
